How open should you be with partner?

Probably, but I'm biased because I'm in certain situation in which I could emphatize and not freak out about it. Still irrelevant though, what you guys think?

Depends on what you've done and who you're dating, and how much you value the relationship.

I haven't done very much truly illegal stuff, but I'm still selective about who I tell things to. Is it nice to be able to be totally open with someone, oh totally. Do I always do so? No. I might tell someone stuff I really don't think they'll react well to if it's important to MY side of the relationship. I like being able to not have secrets.

That said, how long you wait matters, especially if it's something touchy. A person's affection for you won't always trump their prejudice about certain actions, and if you've waited a long time, they may feel deceived rather than happy you've opened up.
