I'm considering buying a condo. Would like input from more experienced people.

>26 y/o, montreal
>Enough money in the bank from dad's life insurance to buy the condo without taking out a loan
>Married, wife will get her permanent residency and move here in ~2 months
>Currently living at my aunts, but she'll need the room in 1 month.
>No job (although I'll find one in the next days/weeks) which makes renting an apartment very hard

Condo costs around 150k. Renting an apartment would be 800/mo. Looking for opinions, advice, things/traps to look out for. Thanks

I like to call condominiums "condoms" in casual conversation. Sometimes people just look at me weird and and don't correct me. Shit's hilarious.

Your money probably isn't making money in the bank so why not? How much are the condo fees and after you buy the condo how will you be able to afford the living expenses (condo fees, utilities, insurance, repairs/maintenance) if you aren't working?

I will work. I was a bit vague, but basically I quit my work to go spend three months with the wife. I've been back for three days only, but I've never had trouble finding work in my life.

Make sure you like it, as it's an investment for life (good luck unloading it, ever) and that the neighbors are quiet.

Condos come with all the benefits and problems of an apartment. If you can handle living in an apartment for the rest of your life, roll with it.

Personally, I'd use the money as a sizeable down payment on a house.

Makes sense. Thanks.

Jesus Christ no. I've stayed in them and feel like a caged animal after a day or two.

>no backyard to chill in
>no grilling
>no peace or quiet

Do what the other anon said and put a down payment on a house.

Some of them have a backyard/balcony to grill. I'm looking for a first floor anyway.
Peace and quiet I don't care too much, and the ones I'm looking at are in a quiet area

>Down payment
I don't have a job right now. Banks probably won't lend me money, even if I find a job.
