If you're really down to nothing, it's time to start looking at more unorthodox places.

Some churches do meals for the homeless. Nobody does it every day, but between whatever's in your area, you may be able to scrape up a few. If you can find a Sikh temple in your area, they're especially good about this.

Keep an ear to the ground for restaurants opening near you. Some of them offer free food the day before they officially open, while they try to work the kinks out of their systems. This is unreliable, but it can be a nice windfall.

Continuing this theme, try hitting up places just as they close. Many of them will be left at the end of the day with things that they cannot sell (because they're closing) or hold for the next day, and you may be able to get a meal or two out of this. Don't rely too much on this method: a lot of restaurants close around the same time, so if you strike out at one place, you may not have time to try another.
