It's a lot more mature way to look at dating and a lot less awkward if she/he turns your offer down or says that she's/he's already taken.
One of the girls I asked out in similar way actually became more talkative and friendly towards me after this. Hearings someone call you interesting enough to ask out can be considered as compliment, where as hearing someone you barely know confess to you is pretty much always awkward.

I don't know about you guys, but I didn't have to tell a girl that I liked her. I met a girl that at first I kinda had a feeling something was up but I really wasn't too excited or interested, another time she came back and talked with me and let me know that she wanted more and to hang out and asked for my number.

Still even when I met her I had a feeling that she was interested in more than hanging out and said after a few hours of talking and smoking I don't know what you expected from this encounter to her? Are you attracted to me? She said yes. I started to look at her and realized she was very pretty. I became interested and attracted to her then met her up later that night when she got into the light at my place I was like damn this girl is very cute and for what ever reason I didn't pick up on it before.

It's going to make her feel awkward, and she's going to say no unless she very confidently has feelings for you, which she probably doesn't or you wouldn't be having this issue. Talk to her, flirt with her, get her number, ask her on a date and see how it goes. It's not really that hard.
