I feel like if I don't have "proof" that something isn't my fault, then other people must know better and if they're blaming me without any kind of doubt, then there must be something I'm missing.
Example:
>went to car repair shop
>car at 100k, asked them to do specific parts
>they tell me some parts look good, don't need to be done
>fast forward 4 months
>something goes wrong with parts they didn't change
>have to get towed and pay them again to fix it
>tell them I asked them to do it the first time, they say I said not to
>don't remember why or if I would say that, so assume they are right because I don't have any prof otherwise
And that is why you should always document stuff.

But everyone I've asked says that's unrealistic and I should just learn to yell (be assertive) until I get my way. But it makes me feel like a bad person to insist without proof.
