My dad has been in federal prison for 3 years now and is facing a maximum of 20 years for money laundering. From his arrest to now I havent really shown any emotion really because I was too busy taking care of my mom since she was and still is a total mess from the incident. So i never looked upset or cried because i tried to be strong for her. Today however it finally hit that I might never see him free again, go fishing, camp out in the woods like we used to. So my question to those of you who have parents locked away for a long time, how did you initially deal with the situation?
I don't have any experience with this, but your dad isn't "gone", he's just stuck in a shitty place. You can still go visit him, have a relationship, it's just going to be inconvenient and weird. Life is what it is, you know?
Honestly he probably needs you to be an adult about it and visit him/talk with him/keep him updated on outside life. It won't be fishing and camping but it'll be something.
Dunno man but good luck.
