Looking to volunteer

I was looking for meaning in life and thought volunteering would give it to me.

I realized that helping the weakest, poorest among us would not make my life better. What I needed was to stop pretending that life was supposed to be fair, or ever would be. That was my own naivete I had in me.

Maybe it will be different for you, but maybe not.

Second thought: how much of volunteering is to make yourself feel good about who you are? What you are ashamed of, or what are you hoping to gain? If you go around talking about your volunteer work, or quietly thinking it makes you somehow more moral and pure than a man working to support his children and family instead --- you need to examine deeper

I volunteer and do pro bono work for various non profits. I have met incredible people, both those who I help and those who work alongside me. It's very rewarding.

It's a good place to start if you'd like to meet other people. However, you'll want to research the places you volunteer at to find out the type of people who volunteer. You don't really want to go work for a place where only old ladies volunteer. You'll want to look for a place where younger people are likely to volunteer.

How'd you find those? Its ahrd for me since most of what I'm interested is just videos games. But lately I've come to realize that I don't want to be only interested in games and porn. I've realized theres more out there and I've been disconnected.

Supports Canadian opportunities. Sorry, most of my resources are US only. You can find a lot of stuff there. I checked Toronto local opportunities and there are some!

Pick a few, email the main contact person and ask about who typically volunteers, how often they volunteer, etc.

That's the spirit! Even if one of them doesn't seem like your "thing," it never hurts to try it out. You never know who you'll meet, or what you actually might love and just not realize it yet.

I volunteered at several animal shelters/rescues for many years in everything from dog walking to surgical suite assistance, then when a staff position in the kennel opened they offered it to me. I accepted of course

pls volunteer at an animal shelter. without volunteers they would fall apart and the staff would kill themselves probably

I've volunteered as a climber at a rescue and nothing came of it.
