~$20 and a bit of work in researching what you want to buy and then putting it together, modifying parts if you have to, can get you like 2, possibly even 3 decent looks/avatars. It's not that expensive, and you're going to be putting loads of hours into it, so it's worth the price. I've probably put about 200 AUD into it and I don't feel bad because I've been on it for several years. Now I just work as an escort, something I could've done even earlier and spent much less money but yeah.

It doesn't take that much money to get a good skin and hair. 1500 linden money is about six dollars. You can get a good skin for like 1000 and hair for like 500. Getting a full mesh thing might be more expensive but never more than like 15 or 20 dollars absolute maximum just to build one good avatar.

It's a combo of SL being a platform that allows freaky toys that work to be built, and SL terms allowing them to be used.

You can get a mesh body from Maitreya for 2750 thats about 12 bucks USD. Hair you can get anywhere for cheap.. less then 300L 500L you are getting ripped off. Clothes in SL go to the Secondlife marketplace and type in what you want. If you buy the Maitreya body type in maitreya pants or whatever it is you want, bra, panties, bdsm gear. Doesnt matter its there. Mesh heads? good ones 3-5k then you need an applier and skin. If you want to look good half way decent just buy a skin dont use a mesh body and youll be ok as well. You wont look the best you possibly can in SL.. But at least you wont look like a noob island visitor with a freebie cock.

Also. Best cock in SL is the Aeros cock. Dont buy anything else itll be crap, high scripted or some other junk. Just go get Aeros and call it a day they also sell skins on there sim.

maitreya is top of the line too, so a bit complex with a lot of features that might not be necessary.
If you're more into a /d/ bodytype, Anthro.anim mesh has a good series of bodies that are less than 700 each, plus another 350 for the breasts.
they're simpler, so you have to do more work yourself to set it up, but its a good skill to have.

yeah, I've found it pretty hard to match feet too, I usually stick to just using animal legs of some sort to cover it up. the one where I have human feet, I hide the seam with some ankle bracelets. I don't know about about the muscle bodies though.

It's really not that hard. If you don't mind spending a bit, you can buy...

And then search for "(your mesh body) (item of clothing)", for example "maitreya skirt", and anything you buy will be specifically rigged to fit that body.

Otherwise try to find a good, cheap shape, alter it if you need to, then buy some mesh, modifiable clothes (you can see in the marketplace whether something has mod permissions), right click and edit. Learn those tools well, they're not hard to get a grasp on, and they'll save you a lot of money.

I started playing SL at 11 years ago now and log on a few times a month. I've met long term friends, but the thing is most serious SL players are fucked in the head, like general 30 year old NEETs who prefer SL Dating over competitve games or anime.

It is a lot of work, but I enjoy it as a really in-depth multiplayer mode character creator with extras added on, and a large library of neat shit made by other people to play around with.

It could actually be pretty decent if the underlying engine were less awful. There's huge potential for player-made game systems for instance, but SL's engine really just doesn't mesh with that sort of thing very well, and I'm willing to bet that the successor to SL ends up too locked down for anything good to come of it.

Yeah, it's not that far off the mark.

I've spent ~$60 on it so far. It goes a long way, but I didn't do it until I was sure I liked the game. Check out the marketplace, try out demos before purchasing anything, don't buy anything that lacks modify permissions, be willing to modify and tinker with whatever you buy and don't impulse buy anything.

If you have no qualms against ripping models and uploading them into the game, you could even do that. (still costs money)

You CAN get away with only using freebies, but the overwhelming majority of free stuff is complete ass.
