I tend to hire them at $20/hr and use them sparingly. And that leaves out a lot of the good ones, who would demand far more. Of course that's if they even want to work for you. There's still a heavy stigma attached to doing adult work. It's not something people can really put on their resume.

Once we have enough money you'll start seeing western games with Sengoku Rance levels of programming complexity. But without the money programmers are a pipe dream.

They are not 3d scenes. The village is in 3d, and thus by taking snapshots from different angles, it helps create a number of different views/bgs. The filter just allows for the BG to match the character art better in the overlay of the VN parts of the game. It's not only cost effective, but works very well when put together.

Perhaps game engine does not mean the same to me as it does to you, but in order to allow my battle and combat element of the game, I need a way far stronger and more powerful than your basic 'renpy' or love2d engine.

Attached is my amazing art on a sample bg. It looks pretty shit, as its simply placeholders whilst the new art is being created.

Lastly, I am not making Sengoku Rance, though my game is inspired by the such. It will host over 50 playable characters, numerous music tracks, a decent and unique to this genre battle and leveling element and of course, nudity and sex scenes, of all types.

This is a big game, and thus I've broken it down into manageable parts. You may be honest in your views - but watch this space. Sooner or later I will hit my targets.

The screenshot is from RenPy indeed, and was just used by myself to test a few things in terms of settings, size, and overall look, ect.

What is different between my game and a VN, is up to what I guess each person defines a VN.

Our game is overall, a top down shooting combat game, much like the old original version of cannon fodder. However, each 'solider' is a character, which has an in depth backstory, and overall the game has a story, which are both told in a VN styled format.

Much like Sengoku Rance or Eiyuu could also be called VNs, some might go further to call them SVNs, with the s standing for strategy. I believe in that regard, our game could be considered a SVN, or a combat VN. It also has conquest, of course.

This of course is down to opinion. My programmer for example believes this to be a poor mans adult version of a total war game. My lead writer calls it a VN with guns and actual shooting. I'm not entirely sure what it can be classed as at this time, but its fairly different.

Each 'solider' in this game is a playable character in terms of combat. The MC takes the role as the leader (typical and somewhat generic) and the numerous soldiers take place in combat. By taking part in combat, or by making certain choices, each 'solider' will have an affected character relation scoring system. At certain levels, scenes will unlock allowing further progress as a 'solider' in terms of skill, whilst also having CG scenes. This allows for both adult and SFW content.

Of course, there's much more to it than just that, and until a playable demo is released, there are more than a few things I want to keep close to my chest. For my own information (future advertising) what would you call a game like this?
