After reading about the Breeding Season fiasco and all the behind the scenes drama, I have even more respect for UE. I don't know anything about any behind the scenes stuff from 4houses but I think it's pretty telling that after he left the project he immediately started a game on his own, began getting quality content out, and in like 4 months has arguably the most complete project on /stg/. So yeah, I'm behind on my release. It's rather annoying to be honest, having to wait for assets. I would almost, almost feel for Tropic.

Currently overall completion of the Demo is at 24% roughly. I can finish the written data for just over 50% tonight, but having to wait for CG scenes and characters is beyond irritating. Once I receive the rest of the art assets, only the music remains, which I am currently also doing myself because more shills.

Still, I'm working with a working title, and should really think of an actual title to my VN game.

Dude real talk, you're not really doing anything groundbreaking here. UE already proved you don't need to shill and lie to get shit done, and managing a "team" for 3 weeks isn't an accomplishment. A lot of work goes into these games and you'll be working over months to a year+ . That's when project management gets difficult. Team members WILL get project fatigue after another few weeks, progress WILL slow as the game matures and the work gets more complicated. That's when you're going to be tested, not in the very beginning while everyone is fresh and excited and while the work isn't as complicated.

Keep working but know that EVERY project here was started to prove how much easier development is than the other content creators make it look. Every time they've learned the hard way that it's not. How you deal with that moment might be different, but understand what you're in for and be prepared to make sacrifices and bust your ass to keep things running.

I hated the game, is was piss poor but this tune along with the chanting theme were pretty epic.

Pianos I believe work best in intros. Electric guitar and base for boss battles. Violins for drama. Trance or some eurobeats for driving.

I think its down to the speed, pitch and theme of the music that allows the setting of a scene.

Psycho for example, without the sound during the shower scene, it's no where near as chilling.

I am aware of this, but I originally gave myself 3 weeks to complete a demo. Although that deadline is today, I do not intend in the slightest to carry on the game if it's shit, which I would have only myself to blame.

In terms of team members, I have paid individuals. if they slow down, or don't deliver, then I simply won't use them, and they will leave the project. By doing so, I retain all rights to the work in the project, whilst being able to outsource the work. That is basic business management.

I am a programmer that works in video dev industry. Previously worked on smaller mobile projects that is closer to work being done here and currently working on a lot bigger project on a different company (some would even call it AAA) And imo you are wrong.

I imagine the art would be bottleneck in these projects. I met artists produces content on a much faster rate. I am not the expert but I believe total art work for WT would take like a month. or maybe 6 weeks top. I am not the expert, but I am just making a guess using the projects I have worked on.

I can't say much about writing but I imagine it shouldn't take more than that visuals.

And for the last part, programming. Honestly if it was my full time job and all the assets were ready, I imagine I can finish a game like WT in a 4-5 weeks. Whole project wouldn't take more than 3 months for 2-3 person.

Most people are failing because they lack the expertise (tropic) or motive (most patreon shills)

To do that the project would have to be planned from the begining having in mind all the gameplay mechanics, characters and story elements, generally that does not happend in this kind of projects, since, things that were planned at the beginning not always work out, parts would have to be removed or adjusted, maybe some elements had to be added to improve the game , etc.

In addition to that, you have to take into account possible external problems that may delay the project, some one got sick, hardware malfuntions, a close relative of someone died.

Is not as simple as you make it sound.

Also, I don't think these games are planned in advance, people start with a good idea and begin developing without a clear finished game in mind, new ideas come along as they progress and the end result is probably very different from what they thought at the begining.

Which do you prefer?
Option A: Old school point-n-click style navigation where you click indicators (like arrows) to face a direction or move to a new location. You click and if a person is there you have the option of starting a conversation. Sometimes the NPC will start to talk to you instead.

Option B: A map icon that you can click at anytime to fast travel to any location. Characters may interact with you impeding progress. Dialogue is initiated giving you choices. You can even choose to leave/ignore/derail/make excuses; but it may result in negative outcomes.

Basically,I want to incorporate a map system but I'm not exactly sure how to do it. I'm looking at the Renpy tutorials; but they don't seem to fit what I want to do.

Dialogue gameplay is akin to Fallout series where having certain meter amount affect interactions. i.e if a sister gets too suspicious they might trigger a game over.

Following the simplest imagemap tutorial, I have added all the highlighted rooms in this picture.
As of now, you can visit them, but I haven't made any events yet. Clicking through an available room takes you back to map.

The rooms that haven't been added are currently not suitable due to size or just overall content. You will notice on the map that the rooms are mostly occupied by 2 two sisters sharing a room.
The problems is that my current pics are of one side or in 1 case too large for renpy to display without cropping.
Solutions I am considering are subdividing the rooms so you can visit each side separately and/or having buttons like >>720728 allowing you to face a side of the room.

Although, I will try to implement other anons' suggestions concerning navigation. (Which were really good).
Currently, this pic shows the first floor.
I need to find a way to allow the player to travel both upstairs and downstairs.
I will post UI ideas in a few days. If you want to test out the build in progress. Just ask.
I'm sorry to all the anons who downloaded the first alpha even though it only had 7 lines of dialogue.

Disney Trainer guy here. We've finished most images of Snow White and the Queen, created the local and world maps and currently we're rewriting the story a little while adding more features for the first chapter.
I probably won't release a demo so that we focus on creating the first chapter instead of forcing a demo out every two weeks.

I know that some people have an issue with Snow's face but it's simply too late to do anything about it now.

For the options, as you can see, you will have the ability to send Snow away on "Quests" which can range from gaining you allies to finding magical items.

I'm trying really hard to keep the interactive feel of the game so it doesn't follow the idea of a visual novel. It would be more appropriate to call this an RPG.
