I didn't draw this, but this is my OC, Sheera K'mm.
>The princess of a warrior alien race, she becomes the princess of Earth after her father invades. Even though she's a warrior, her father is overprotective and doesn't allow her to leave the castle. But unbeknownst to the king, Sheera sneaks out at night, in order to become more familiar with her new surroundings and future subjects. Being naive Sheera falls into the wrong crowd on her nightly adventures, becoming best friends with strippers and prostitutes.
If you couldn't tell, her most prominent feature are her lips, followed by her ass.
This drawing is from an angle where you can't really see any facial features, but on the right is generally what I want her to look like.

Here's where it gets complicated. You don't want to have too many or too little design elements or your character will look either bland or overdesigned. There's that saying:

The latter's really more for roleplay. You don't have to be original with the personality. Archetypes are a good starting point.
Also identify the flaws and weaknesses of your character. Are they terrified of failing or terrified of the dark for example? If your character has some special ability like being able to cast magic this is especially important for the character to not feel like a Mary Sue. Though I guess this isn't all that important unless you're writing longer stories. Whether the flaws of the character affect his visual design is up to you. But for each thing your character is super good at you could try balancing it with something they're bad at. Keep in mind these aren't rules. Just guidelines you can break or follow. I don't claim to be an expert either.

Try drawing up influences from more places. If you have several favourite artists who are all drawing a different depiction of what they see as beautiful you could try and borrow something from the way they're doing things. Also you could look for photos of people you find attractive and stylize them. As people can look so different your stylized drawings of them should look varied too. Same with bodytypes. And it doesn't hurt to image search for clothes and hairstyles too to inject into your design. Likewise for drawing robots you search for ones you like and then mix and match the design elements from those.

Well, when I say uniformity, I mostly mean how their chassis looks. Like with industrial machines you have a lot of angular hard edges meant to fully encase the hardware without wasting space, or how children's toys have soft curves. Certain aspects, like impeded lights, can be seen on various areas of the body and the joints of the legs and arms can look the same. Even junk bots are uniformly made of junk. Looking at mecha is the perfect way to get ideas. Starting with the classics and their simple designs would be a good idea. My characters aren't the most variated, interesting things buuut
Well, I like starting without much decided before-handed. Just draw and see where it goes, really. I often only get a theme midway through, and then adapt what I already have so it fits it. Sometimes I do have a vague idea of what I want already, though I find it harder to work like this.
Something I like to do is redrawing. I lower the opacity of the first sketch and then draw over it, making some changes as I go just to see how it looks. Or try to draw from memory and compare.
For variety.. I've been trying to use more shapes. I use mostly circles, ovals and bean-like shapes in variated sizes so I have different proportions. And having a notion of who the character is can be very helpful when coming up with details, especially hair and clothes. Like others said, study inspiration sources, both by drawing models and observing what other artists do.
Also, use generators. They can be a pretty fun exercise and propose some stuff you would never come up by your own.

Depends on how exaggerated you want it. Triangle is bottom heavy, upside triangle is too heavy, rectangular is talk and skinny, square is short and squat. One piece is a good example of exaggerated character shapes, a good portion of characters have tiny arms and legs. Realistic shapes are more like pears and hourglasses.

It works more for stylized stuff, of course. With realistic stuff, it comes to understanding the character's body.
Which bones are more wide or longer, which areas accumulate more fat, etc.
And in the end the most important in both styles are the proportions. I really think that's what makes a person the most unique, alongside posture. Long legs and a short torax, tiny waist and large shoulders, short arms and wide hips, long necks and a small face.
Anyway, pic related is an example. The shapes are mostly torax/hips/head. In arms and legs, what changes mostly is the width.

I know there are times where Id like to see other people draw things of my fetishes, so i can understand why someone would want to have a fetish-type of challenge. What discourages me the most is that Colors 3D saves the entire drawing process automatically so every mistake I make makes the saved drawing use more and more storage space, which is a precious resource for me, so when I am having a bad day and I end doing billions of corrections to a drawing that is just not working out I usually end just deleting it and starting another one from scratch just so it takes less space, which is very discouraging.

I feel a lot more open to experimentation and just throwing stuff around on the canvas to see what works it was sort of freeing not being so anxious about making the final result look good. I dunno!

I live alone so my "luxury" money budget is limited, and I invest it mainly on games.
I dont own a smartphone, I use a crappy nokia for work purposes and my PC refuses to take any USB media so I cant get it to read anything.
So basically I only have my 3DS for art right now (and even that is faulty these days because how poor care I take of it) and considerig I already allocated a lot of my "luxury" money to buy a lot of games this year thats not gonna change any time soon.

I've messed around with some of the free drawing/painting apps on my vita a while back. Pretty decent aside from the different stylus type can be hard to get used to for some.
3DS since you seem to prefer spending your money on game related things, let me know if youre interested in buying my old vita. you can copy files from it wirelesslyto PC too, so that may help with your other problem also.

Thanks but Vita has a capacitive touchscreen, which, aside me absolutely hating them, are really bad for art because their low accuracy (doesnt mean people cant do amazing stuff with it mind you, but i am not THAT good and will never be!), I don't like drawing with my fingers!
Yes I know capacitive styluses exist but the screen is still very innacurate, I need pixel level drawing! I cant even use a higher than 1 pixel brush in the drawing apps I use! a capacitive would drive me completely insane!

Discord is where the irc has been migrating to. it actually works sort of like an irc/spkype hybrid. you can use it in a browser, or with pc/mobile apps. it has image uploads and voice options.

You just think of a theme and an animal. Then, you incorporate those together. It's used on nearly every Pokemon that Gamefreak designs. (Azumarill incorporates bunnies and bubbles, Rotom incorporates possession and machines, Haxorus incorporates dragons and axes, you get my point.)

they're all from modarchive.org I dumped like 8gb of music from a torrent onto my phone for a school year and just favourited all the not bad tracks to find them. There was A LOT to sift through so it's kind of hard finding the good ones. If you want the ones I picked they're in the Audio/BGM folder you can open them in VLC or Foobar2k with a plugin if you're so inclined. I'm p. sure there's some songs in there that didn't make it in the game I also actually have a big collection of songs I can post on here if you want. I was thinking about creating a blog or something to post the good ones I found and showcase them but I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested.

So I got on a weird glitchy "boat" and went into the sea, then hit a rock and sank into the ocean, then had to direct a cat with cardinal directions but i made it move a little too much south and the game froze!
That was so freaking weird! But the dialogue was very endearing. It makes me wish to go back to make silly RPG maker games.
Also I think the resolution hack messed up a lot of things and it somehow the game doesnt allow full screen with Alt + Enter.

Spriting was always my weakest point (aside mapping...) when I was big into RPG maker, the character sprites very vagely resembled their portraits.
