I used to really like EGS years ago, but after the birthday party arc, it just seemed like Shive was spinning his wheels.

He kept adding more boring characters, his art never improved, and as far as TFy stuff went, it just all became very.. Wotch-ish.

It was all so common and completely lacking in any kind of impact or importance or consequence that it all just felt dumb.

Shive needs to scrap the whole damned thing and start from scratch storywise, if you ask me.. Wouldn't hurt if he actually got better at drawing instead of sticking with his pseudo-newspaper comic aesthetic.

It has been a long while since I had the fortitude/patience to bother reading the author commentary of each comic, but I do remember long ago a mention that Dan had serious misgivings about the handling and rate of story development, specifically regarding Grace's family and most of alt universe Ted. Ever since that realization, he seemed to put on the breaks on any forward story development by a huge degree and never really let off. It shifted off of telling a narrative and onto exploring the characters and world of technoxenomagic, often in a super meandering manner. The priority became shaping the world of EGS into something that could accommodate any weird new idea/character/arc/concept at will without much strain, which is how you get Hammerclorians and the like. He's still telling that overarching story, but with no regard to THAT story's pacing. Coupled with the inordinate level of detail in development and execution in and out of the comic (genuine autistic levels at times, no hate, though it's gotten less pronounced in recent years), it takes a special level of investment to stick around.

You are not wrong in feeling like this thing needs more focus or a hard reboot. In nearly any other medium it would be a colossal failure of storytelling. But this is webcomics, and this is Dan. Shit just operates... different.

While it's clear (to us) that several of the EGS chars have had sex, just what is the score right now? Sarah is frigid, Ellen has done Elliot, and that Grace did Ted in several of the most bizzare ways she could. But I think several of the new ones have not had sex yet.

I remember finding egs randomly one day I was in high school, moping that my girlfriend had broken up with me and staying up all night reading it.

It's hard to believe 10 years later it's still going on. I haven't kept up with it in awhile, keep telling myself I'd catch up. But I follow Dan on Twitter. I remember being amazed at how quickly his art went from shit to having great angles and lighting.

That's not enough axes for a remotely useful description of human sexuality. Why bother with a new nomenclature if it's going to be less descriptive than the old one and no simpler to use? Well if I recall correctly both Sister arcs revolved around Ellen in some way. The first was her creation, the second was the old wizard guy chasing after her. So my best guess is what >>687479 mentioned; the story arc involving Magus trying to get Ellen to zap Elliot is finally going to be resolved. The fact that Magus had sway in the events of both of the other Sister arcs also supports this. That all is just going off the title alone, although I have no clue what catspaws or cats paws is referring/hinting to.

Now for the content of the cover itself. It appears that Susan and Diane are either looking at each other or who I suspect to be Magus. I'm going to go with the former and say this hints at their inevitable meeting taking place during this arc.

With Magus towering over Ellen and Elliot I suspect this further hints at my previous assumption that this will be the resolution to Magus' meddling in events. I read EGS when I was in high school and eventually lost interest. Then in college I was shocked to learn I actually was a classmate of Dan Shive. We never actually really met each-other or spoke. He does good work, although IMO his best feature is his customer-service and reliability. Dude contacts you at every major stage to make sure it's all as it should be, and is generally super-punctual.
