They did the same in Fate/Stay Night with Shirou to the point i cringe everytime his name
comes up due to shitty fanon.

HP and Naruto also suffer badly if you ever want to see where Jauncefics/art will be in 2-3 years just look at the Naruto xover section on FFN.

With Jaune it's annoying due to how they can't just make him decent they have to give him either horribly overpower or horribly exploitable powers or a power thats both of those and more and by the time they're done whatever remains has nothing in common with Jaune except his name and sometimes not even that.

As such personally when it comes to RWBY smut he's my No.1 turn off.

As for the artwork itself, the Jaune/Yang that got edited to Ren/Yang is the one I was referring to. He found that on Rule34, posted before even the original piece was, and needless to say wasn't exactly pleased.

And yeah, the analogy of a group project works as well. It's not necessarily the editing itself that I find a problem with, but more that it's done in a really shitty way that's just plain disrespectful to the original artist. Especially since a lot of artists are willing to create alternate versions of certain artwork.

I understand your point of view and can agree with it to a certain degree. In the defense of editing/coloring we would only be "stealing" if we took credit for the artist's original work. The worse I can see is if the original artist takes commissions and releases a censored version before releasing the nude and someone does a nude edit of that. Even then it isn't the original artist's image (the nude) that is being distributed, its an edit of a clothed/censored image.

As far as asking an artist for an alternative is really impractical when you consider all of the possible issues.

I can't speak for everyone but "I" do this just for fun. I have no intention on ever taking a payment for an edit or even take credit above the original artist.

I'm going to disagree with you there. Instead of going off to certain threads and bashing on the artists themselves, simple edits are made. This is one of the least shitty ways to do it. People used to harass the artists themselves for the commissions they made.

I can definitely see where you're coming from, as again, the editing itself isn't really what I have a problem with. It's just the way it's being done, and some of the reasons for some of them being done, are ones that are a disservice to the original creator's intent. Good on you though. It's good to hear that you yourself have no intention of doing such things. It's just that at the same time, there are always those who do have those intentions.

And yeah, I do get that asking the artist for an alternative isn't exactly the most practical way of doing it. Not all of them might like what's being suggested. I totally get that, but this really applies to Naruto more than anyone else. He's been plastered in that exact same light fucking the female population of Konoha as well as other worlds of anime. If any fandom treats the everyman character like a beefed up sexgod it's the naruto franchise.
RWBY itself is somewhat niche and not as popular one would think, but in some sense Jaune is their Naruto except not as overused since much of the fandom is all about yuri.
And it is understandable that people would hate how a fandom treats a character, but that's what fandoms do at their worst. It isn't limited to RWBY. Attack of Titan is congested with fujos, Steven Universe full of tumblr dykes, and dont even get me started on Invader zim and mlp.
In short, it's pointless to hate a fandom's treatment of a character, but they're cancerous regardless. You just gotta enjoy what you can enjoy and not get so buttblasted over how a character is used. I certainly despite the BB fandom of RWBY but I just truck along and look for my own interests. Generally when works are taken and altered without the artist's permission it's a dick move. ESPECIALLY if that edit is being lauded as the original, or better than the original simply because someone changed a small and petty detail. Nobody is an asshole for not liking their work being taken without their permission.

It'd be like if a book was entirely copied, but someone just changed the title and names of the characters. Or, using audio, taking a song and changing a couple words.
