I doubt Anthem even will even be successful. Development has been pretty troubled right now and people might are losing faith and interest on BioWare after ME3 and MEA, not to mention it will be competing with Destiny 2.

It's biowares first go at doing something on a new engine, all the refining they did over the course of all of the trilogy + the drgon age games didn't help because they were effectively starting from scratch. The big bad Kett leader attacks the Nexus and kidnaps your brother or sister(the Ryder twin you didn't pick) along with the entire human arc. You track him down to Meridian, a remnant mcguffin that controls all the remnant tech in the sector(including the atmospheric purifiers) and lead a counter attack to get back your sibling and the human arc, kill the Archon, and seize control of Meridian to make the sector habitable. You succeed, but the human arc crashes and is embedded in Meridian, and so it becomes the new human homeworld. It ends with a teaser about the Quairan arc and a stinger for an even bigger and badderer Kett leader. (presuambly those were meant to be DLC that isn't going to happen any more) After the game is over you can still continue to explore the worlds, do side missions, and talk to your crew.

Not a particularly satisfying ending. Mainly because there was basically no conclusion to any of the major overarching plot points in the story. The remnant, the scourge, the kett, none of it is explained at all. If you want closure for any of that you'll have to wait for the sequel that may or may not even happen.

Because aside from literally the last 10 minutes or so, the game was actually pretty good IMO. Bioware screwed the pooch by condensing everything, all the choices made over the previous three games into minor variations of the same three color-coded endings. Also whoever decided multiplayer effecting the campaign much less the ending was a good idea needs to be taken out back and shot.

I kinda feel like a sort of 80s montage of the after-effects of the war.

Ending one: You go in with too little war resources, and the crucible gets damaged in the fighting and mis-fires. Reapers in the sol system are fucked, but so are the combined fleet, fighting gets dragged on over the course of a few years, culminating in an eventual reaper victory, however reaper forces are extremely diminished. The person doing the end narration states "while we may have lost, we've set the stage for the next cycle to possibly survive."

Ending two: basically the same as above, but it's a skin of the teeth combined fleet victory ending.

A few more endings with varying after effects depending on what choices were made, EG curing the genophage, not curing the genophage leads to, say the krogans moving towards extinction due to losses suffered during the fighting both on tuchanka and on the front lines, whether or not you recruit leviathan can lead towards a technological boom after the fact, or entire planets subjugated depending on how convincing you were of them, etc etc.

I'm not wrong though. I mean aside from edgelord Kai Leng (seriously did not need to be a thing. They could have accomplished just about everything he did in 3 with a horde of husks, or maybe a smart banshee.... fuck that'd actually have been cool now that I think on it.)

A lot of the plot elements from the previous games got tied into a mostly neat bow. Conclusion to the geth /quarian war, we got to see tuchanka and sort out the genophage one way or another, the rachni make a comeback in one way or another. The only shit that really seemed to hurt things was starchild and everything after after the confrontation with the illusive man.

Hell we even get a clarification on where the fuck these cosmic machine horrors came from in the first place. I honestly give it an 8/10 for the majority of the game, and then 1/10 for the final act.

I still disagree. It was a fun game to play through but the main problem I had with the game was the writing. And that's a big thing to consider in an RPG game.
Right from the start, you can see that they dumbed down dialogue options and for the majority of the game you have max two options to pick. They also railroaded Shepard into having those nightmares about that kid that no one cared about, I get that they wanted to make it seem like Shepard was having some PTSDs from the war but it could have been handled much better.
The plot was also pretty retarded in some places, especially the Rannoch story arch. Again, it was pretty fun to play but the story for Rannoch directly contradicts the Geth's goals as they were established in ME2 and it's replaced with a generic "I wanna be a real boy" story. And they went full retard with Cerberus in ME3, turning them from a morally ambiguous pro-humans to Saturday morning cartoon villains, and don't even get me started on Kai Leng.
Then there's stuff like most of the side quests being fetching around the galaxy map, most of the EMS you collect don't even show up in the final battle, tons of content locked behind overpriced DLC, that IGN cameo, yadda yadda.
And honestly, while I liked the Lovecraft at the start of Leviathan, I think that explaining the Reapers' origins actually "hurts" their character. The Reapers were supposed to be this ancient Lovecraftian space-gods that the human mind could not hope to comprehend, as Sovereign said: they had no beginning or end. But then the DLC comes along and just gives all the answers in the end, completely ruining any mystery behind their origins. And it turns out they were created because some ancient race were all dumb fucks that had no idea what they were doing. Great.
And then there's the clusterfuck of an ending story we all heard a thousand times.

Still, best gameplay in the series. If I you want a fun third-person shooter I would totally recommend ME3.

Bioware Montreal had shit leadership that didn't know when to give up on bad ideas, couldn't get team members to spread info to the rest of the dev team, and didn't collaborate with Edmonton to develop the tools needed to make Frostbite handle RPG stuff. After about 2-3 years, Edmonton looked at the shit show, fired the leaders, and put Mac Walters in charge for 18 months of perpetual crunch as they tried to salvage what they had and make a semi-decent game.

I think the problem isn't that they were given an explanation, so much as that they were given a ~bad~ explanation. If they had just gone with the watered-down "they're incomprehensible, and that's all we know" then they'd effectively have just been a horde of random bad guys doing random bad things. That's not only boring, it's incongruous with the kind of story that Mass Effect usually is; it generally draws from the Star Trek style of sci-fi where even the strange and evil aliens have a sort of logic to their actions that you can see if you explore enough. The Borg are a nigh-unstoppable threat to the galaxy who cannot be negotiated with, and the fact that their actions ~make sense~ from their own alien perspective makes them all the more horrifying. Even Q, who is so far above humanity that we can't even begin to understand how he does what he does, almost always seems like he has some logic behind his actions. It's the same with the geth, the rachni, and the Thorian; at first they seem like evil space monsters beyond our understanding, then we really get to know them, and while they still seem very, very alien, they ~make sense~.

For the Reapers, the first two games do indeed paint them as incredibly ancient, mysterious, and powerful foes, and the more we learn about them, the more horrifying they seem. The best option was to give them motives that dealt with matters so vast and far-reaching that they're totally detached from anything humanity can relate to but still follows their own strange alien logic, rather than a simple "they're eldritch and incomprehensible, the end" cop-out.

The problem is that the Reapers' motives ~don't make sense~. They exist to stop a threat that we're supposed to just accept as inevitable, when all the evidence we see suggests that the only reason there are so many AI rebellions is because people see them as inevitable. We're perfectly capable of establishing peaceful, cooperative relationships between organics and synthetics if we see past the "AI are dangerous and will always rebel" prejudice, but Mass Effect 3 expects us to suddenly accept that a war is inevitable anyway. On top of that, it leaves a lot of the Reapers' actions unexplained and nonsensical; if stopping an organic/synthetic war was all they really wanted, then there are much easier ways to go about it than secretly manipulating the entire galaxy so they could easily genocide them all every 50,000 years. It doesn't help that it's introduced out of nowhere at the end of the game, along with some equally abrupt "solutions" which raise even more questions.

And the reveal that they're just poorly-programmed robots was even worse. Explaining their motives is one thing, but ~that~ sure as sugar killed their whole eldritch space god thing they had going for them. After that, they weren't an ancient, impossibly advanced race with incredibly alien minds and motives anymore. They were barely even ~characters~ anymore. They were just... an accident.
