/co/ is not some special authority on the animation industry.

Industry animators know how to make quality animation; the 12 fundamental principles of animation are covered in the first year of study.

It is just very rare for TV productions to have both the time and money to produce quality animation. TV producers tell the animators to make it fast, cheap, and good. You can't have all three, so they do the first 2 because those are the ones that matter most to the producers at the end of the day.

Some art styles are demonstrably easier to animate than others, though. This is why Fire & Ice looks nothing like a Frank Frazetta painting. If he painted every frame to his usual level of detail, the movie would literally never get finished. You have to cut corners, and that's where the Cal-Arts style comes in.

This is not open to serious dispute here. What I'm saying is not a matter of opinion. That's a simple fact of animation - your level of detail in any given frame is often at odds with your ability to produce a moving picture. Hence the noodly, easy to render characters that lend themselves well to shortcuts and computer assistance.

And you might be tempted to say you covered this by talking about budget, and deadlines, but that's actually a different dimension of this discussion, because the existence of a certain style that's easier will affect the sort of budgets and deadlines you can get, especially if you're agitating to go in a different artistic direction (unless you're a totally independent production coming out of a very well funded studio).
