Call me a massive dork, but I actually started wondering how to handle pic related ingame.

Assets:

Demons:
>12 imps
>1 Pinky
>2 Barons
>2 Revenants
>1 Mancubus

>4 Lost Souls

That's a lot of demons.
Solution:
>2 imps are already dealt with. One just got shotgunned and the other is getting Glory Killed. 10 imps to be dealt with as they come.

>Take out the Souls
>Focus down a Baron
>Switch focus to Revenants and kill them

Not the best, but the situation was tense going in and all I had as Super Shotty.

The SS was the only certain asset, so I operated under the pretense that it wasn't available.
Really the biggest threats in that image are the Barons and the cacos, but the pinky and the souls are distracting elements that would interfere with the other demons. The imps and the razers are practically a non-threat compared to everything else. The revenants are a threat, but there easy to keep an eye on and their missiles can be avoided. Unless the mancubus manages to get closer, it's not much of a threat either.

It's not as bad as it looks. You have a lot of ranged enemies in a wide open area, so you should get them infighting if you keep running in circles.

So how do the Nazis fit into all this? They seemed to get along with the demons in Doom 2.

It was just an easter egg, I'm not sure if they belong here. The demons are in the secret levels because it was probably too much hassle to implement the Nazi dogs and especially Grosse.

She "Ooh"s and "Hmm"s over the various footwear, sometimes even bothering to slip them on. You note that she never actually tries to stand or walk in them.

She pauses her search and simply floats in the center of the aisle, bobbing gently in midair. Her hands are on her hips, her lips are pursed over her fangs, and she's giving the racks of shoes the ugliest look her single eye can manage.

She huffs in frustration. "Oh," She says. "this is the worst!" Her voice is high and feminine with a distinctly sibilant accent. "Why does everything in this store have to be so drab and boring?"

Having spent an hour just sitting in this department, you opt to involve yourself in her dilemma to stave off the maddening boredom.

"Well," You say. "the UAC isn't really known for its color and excitement."

She rotates vertically in midair, turning to face you.

"I just don't see why!" She says. You struggle to focus on that big, green peeper of hers and not stare at her mouth. It's a little distracting with its size, rows of fangs, and supernatural glow. "You'd think they'd be more colorful, not less!"

You bite down on a yawn while she speaks. "And why's that?"

She crosses her arms across her generous chest and you redouble your efforts to maintain eye contact. "They have so many resources and so many super smart people running around that you'd think they'd be bursting with color and creativity."

She rotates horizontally until she's lying on a bed of thin air, her legs tucked.

"But they aren't." She continues. "They just... aren't. For everything they've accomplished, the UAC is the dullest, most boring, and most unhappy bunch of creepers and sourpusses I've ever met."

She somersaults and suddenly she's in your personal space, her emerald eye wide.

"And I'm a demon!" She says, incredulous. "From Hell!" She raises her hands, gesturing at the ridiculousness of it all. "How do they do that?!"

shit nigger what the fuck are you doing? you can double jump dodge him out of LOS and aggro the souls instead. once youre outed him he's gonna take a while to gather himself up, once you're done with the souls you can finish off the imps by batches of 2, then swap over to cacos, then barons, all the while avoiding revenant fire almost effortlessly with minimum strafing skills. pinky can safely be left unbeckoned up until this point since the battleground has been just about wiped off entirely.

mancubi are isolated so they pose close to no real danger unless you meander about. razers are a fool's ill timed joke after everything else.

do you hurt yourself with rockets in snapmap too?

I see your point. My first instinct is to always take out any Pinkie first because of that damn armor.
We agree that the souls should go first, though. They're fast and they do a ton of damage, so they should be dealt with. I believe the imps should just be taken out as you face other demons. They're effectively made of tissue paper.

Still solid stuff, really capturing that caco spirit. Though I'd argue, just on a world-building poin that Nu-Mars is a fully functional city with independently owned stores and major retail centers and everything. I just pointed out an example of a store that your caco would go gaga over.

Some of their buildings are nice in that ostentatious over-deluxe, kinda bioshock 1 atmosphere kind of look, like the Olympus Mons apartment building, but your caco's on point with them.

Used to your friend's antics, you take her abruptness and vehemence in stride. Looking at the racks of shoes on display, you find yourself agreeing with her.

The UAC's distinctive lack of variety and vibrancy permeates the entire store, but it comes to a head in the clothing departments.

She was right about it being drab. The color palette is dull and faded with nothing but light gray, powdery blue, safety yellow and matte black.

The variety of footwear is equally limited. This aisle seems to contain nothing but very samey sneakers and some flimsy looking sandals.

You nod to yourself. "Yeah, it's a bit of a wonder."

"Ugh!" She groans and puts her face in her hands, floating away to a more comfortable distance. "I know! I'm starting to wonder why I even came to this stupid store!"

"I've been wondering too, actually." You say, standing and stretching your stiff back. "I kinda wanna ask you a question, but I don't want to come off as insensitive or anything."

"Man, look who you're talking to." She says, rubbing at her eye. "I've been insulted by things a lot older and a lot scarier than you. Shoot."

"Second of all," She says, extending her left leg and waving her foot at you. "these feet were made for accessorizing and I am not squandering their potential." She wiggles her toes at you.

You regard the squirming digits. That actually brings up another question.

"Sorry for all the questions, but why do cacodemons even have feet? I mean, you guys just float everywhere, right?"

Her foot drops and you get the feeling that she'd raise her eyebrow at you if she had any. "Why do birds have legs, dude? We gotta land sometimes."

She looks thoughtful for a moment. "I actually asked one of those UAC eggheads about it once." She says, remembering. "He said some junk about "demon evolution" and I think he brought up Argent at one point, but I kind of tuned him out because I was struggling with my bag of trail mix."

It's a shame you don't play as the Slayer, but I honestly don't mind that much as long as the game is good.

Which do you guys prefer shorter, more frequent chapters or longer, less frequent.

I'm REALLY enjoying writing this, so at the rate I'm going I could probably get a short 7-10 page chapter done every 2 days or so. The longer ones would probably be 25-30 pages and come out once a week as I'd probably binge write on my off days.

You effectively stumble in on the Cyberdemon giving a speech to a bunch of barons, it spots you, flips out and starts trying to murder you. The barons, not having seen you, react to their leader's sudden outburst with retaliatory violence, plunging the room into chaos.
You're left to watch as the meanest SOBs in Hell rip each other apart over a misunderstanding.
It's gloriously absurd and hilarious.

I love the gimmick of using a giant press to kill the SM. Honestly, everything else in that level after that could be cut out and it wouldn't bother me.

"Come out swinging" has never been more appropriate. The instant the door opens, you had better have your chaingun ready.
