I've uploaded my commission sheet multiple times but it seems that the most requested thing are black and white comics (Since my coloring sucks abismal ass)

I do a sketch drawing of 2 characters for $15
(this means like, two characters fucking or one sucking the other's dick)

When you draw stuff worth money you can charge commissions. This is obviously based off of skill but how degenerate you will go will lower that bar a bit.
You charge how much you feel like, its up to the client to think of it if its worth it or not. Some people are cool with 300-500 buck commissions and some aren't even cool with giving out 10 bucks for one no matter how good you are.
Post work and anons here can help you determine what you should charge.

what worked for me is starting out in drawthreads doing it for free, getting a handle on what people ask for, how to accept and produce and deliver, and then basically at a certain point people will start making requests outta nowhere and you know there's a demand. then just start charging piddly amounts, and when you post that shit online mention that it was a commission in the description
then shit will start happening and you'll know you're ready

that's what it means, yes. you could even just set a small limit like a theme or a character, and just tell them to go wild. you have to really be sure you'll like whatever outcome
personally, the idea seems like a lot of fun and a break from normal requests (assuming my client will like it regardless)

Yeah i've gotten game commissions from here. If they like the first few things you do, they'll likely keep you on hand to make more.
The project I'm on has a very sensible policy: once the game actually gets sold, I'll get profit sharing, MINUS the amount I've already been paid as commissions. In return I'm happily doing a lot of sketchwork on spec and just finishing it up later when they have the cash

What about non-commerical works?

Its probably harder to keep the artist interest by only paying him/her normally and i wouldnt want the artist to dissapear and then having to get another one which in turn would make the game have inconcistent artstyle.

Yeah. Im working with some dude on fan game about certain hentai VN/OVA (Cant say) but his art is trash so once we are done with the game im commisioning someone that can draw in anime style to make it look closer to the OVA (Cant tell him or i would hurt his feelings).

What some VNs do is have various artists do the draw lines and then hire one colorist to do the rest. So i may get one person to draw sprites, another to make CGs and then get a colorist to color them all.

The main problem is finding someone reliable that will stick with you through mud and rust.

Yeah but at least if something goes wrong i still have some concistency for either sprites or CGs. The average seems to be 30-40$ for sprites plus 3-5 expressions colored so by just commisioning line art the artist can deliver faster and save me some money. It will likely be a long term project for me so maybe i wont feel the money inverted.

Its hard not to be concerned now with many artists using patreon were people with more money can hog your artist for their comissions.

You know the reason those fees exist is because you, as a seller, are benefiting from Paypal's service.
You get business because for customers it's easier to use Paypal than send cash or arrange a bank transfer or something.

You don't "pay twice" to get the discount on my Patreon. My discount commission tiers act as a coupon that gets applied to the commission. The total amount you spend as a discount tier holder is ALWAYS less than that of a regular commission of the same value. I explicitly designed those tiers to save people money :)

I made that as clear as I can on the page, if there's an error that implies otherwise then I'll fix it.

If there was a fee that comes out of the patrons' pockets, I would adjust my tiers so that commission tier patrons always pay less than a regular commission. There are some commissioners/artists who make the clients pay those fees, but i'm not one of them.

I re-read Patreon's posts about the fees just to make sure that they are, in fact, directed at the creator and not the patrons. And even if it WAS the patrons who paid those fees, they would still save money as opposed to getting a normal commission:

$30 tier x 1.09 (5% plus 4% processing fee) = $32.70, and they'd get $35 worth of commissions for free.
$50 tier x 1.09 = $54.50, and they'd get $60 worth of commissions for free.
$100 tier x 1.09 = $109.00, and they'd get $125 worth of commissions for free.

So even if I were mistaken, they WOULD still be discounts.

I use Dropbox myself. I share the file through the browser version after I've popped it in my own Dropbox, and then take it out after seven days. Tidy Dropbox tidy mind.
