Probably a year, at least. I can confirm that game good. Story mode is the closest thing we'll ever get to a good DCU movie. If you like Netherrealm's other fighting games, you'll like this one. Also, Starfire is releasing soon, so that's cool.

Given that Jimmy Palmiotti has quoted that story in interviews, to the point of being mentioned in the Wikipedia article? I don't think it's been proven apochryphal.

The version I always heard was that artist Wally Woods was trying to get fired from DC and did the bigger-every-issue; as Palmiotti tells it, it was because Woods thought that nobody at editorial was paying any attention to anything he did, so he drew them bigger every issue to see how long it'd take them to notice.

Given that Woods was drawing out-and-out porn comics (look up "Sally Forth"--not the comic strip) in the late 70s and early 80s, shortly before he died, I don't see any reason to think he wouldn't try something like that...

Well, there's not much to that scene exactly.

If you want the tl;dr background, it's from "52," an actually pretty good weekly series that DC did some years back. The gimmick was that it came out once per week for a year, and was supposed to end with establishing what at that point was the new normal for the DC multiverse (the one they scrapped in favor of Flashpoint and Nu-52).
One of the better storylines involved an island full of mad scientists that were brought there and press-ganged into working for the main villains. It's a concept that made for a good amount of humor and general weirdness.
Anyway, the mad scientists build some monsters that kill Black Adam's new family, he hunts the island base down for revenge but gets captured, Adam was still doing a sometimes-enemy-sometimes-friend thing with the JSA at the time, so the JSA follows Adam's trail and raids the island.
So some D-lister and made up on the spot mad scientist characters trot out their creations to try and stop the JSA and get stomped, the important characters get rescued or escape as appropriate, and the whole thing sets up some shitty story arcs that happen after 52 ends, IIRC. The Island shows up again in some Doom Patrol re-launch that I never got around to reading.

Someone suggested Wildcat for the guy right of Black Manta. That would actually make a lot of sense really.
I still think the Atom is a good call, considering that the guy who leaked the roster list gave us a list of premiere skins and LOT of them were CW versions of their respective characters, which implies to me that if you have a CW counterpart right now, there's a good chance you could get in.

Etrigan isn't a bad idea, but I just don't think that big guy looks like him. But I'm honestly drawing a complete blank as to what he could be.
As for the female character, here's an idea I just had: Mary Marvel.

Injustice 2. Supergirl is a normal playable character and they've since revealed that one of her DLC alternate skins just straight up means you're playing as Powergirl instead.

There's similar arrangements where one of the alternate skins of Cheetah means you're playing as Vixen, an alternate skin of Cyborg means you're playing as Grid, and an alternate skin of Captain Cold means you're playing as Mr. Freeze.

Actually, these alternate characters have their own voices and stories. Game mechanicswise those characters weren't unique enough to get their own thing anyway. I think it's no lazier then DC is normally.

It's actually the opposite of lazy. The cast is pretty big regardless (29 characters; fighting games rarely have more than 30 without being bloated), so having it so that players can pick multiple characters with their own voices and such is super cool. It's not like they're wasting character slots on clones a la Smash Bros. If you take into account all the alt skins in Injustice 2, the total character count jumps from 29 to 36. And there's at least 9 more DLC characters on the way.
