A chyoa story takes time to develop since it's basically multiple stories clumped together. If you want to read stories with multiple deep threads then you need to look for older stories that have had years to grow.

Better yet, since Chyoa lets you add your own threads do that and help the stories you like grow.

What he's shown so far for Future Fragments isn't even particularly great. I like the art but the general feel of the game is pretty amateurish. Like it's something I wouldn't be shocked to see for free on Newgrounds or in a mobile store.

It's this "Everything must be HYPER-RENDERED, using fifty layers and taking a week to do a single basic portrait is a sensible illustration practice" bullshit influencing it. The poorly done and extraneous multi-depth shadowing makes it look like crap when a simple, single-tone shadowing style would have been fine.

That matte painting style is perfectly suited for some situations and looks gorgeous, but when you're making dozens of characters with body varieties it's a waste of time, slows you down for no good reason, and looks like crap when you rush it and aren't very good at it.
