Talking about what Kickstarter games were good is a whole other can of worms that maybe it's not best to open.

But I'll tempt it anyway by saying that while money and publicity do matter, the skill of the game's creators are ultimately going to have a huge effect.

While it might have needed crowdfunding, the new Shantae was made by a previously existing dev studio, the members of which had years of experience in 2d platformers.

A lot of these Kickstarter flops were run by people with how knew how to promote their projects well, but the people doing the hands-on work were less skilled, or the planners made serious mistakes which hobbled the project. You ability to make hype, and your ability to deliver a project that can live up to the hype, are two different skillsets.

Personally I think it's because people got burned out on it early. 1/2 Hero got a bunch of hype, and then it came out a year after it was supposed to. Between Giga Mermaid, the actual mermaids, the bath attendant, and Holly Lingerbean there's plenty of material. But the porn artists follow what's popular, and by the time the game came out it wasn't popular anymore.

Original Gameboy had 160x144 resolution at 2.6" diagonally. Your sprite on the original gameboy would be just under half an inch tall, but on screecher's phone it's probably under a millimeter and this triggers him.

I guess if they did that though, Japan would have hated it. They only jack it to underage girls. Why else are all the main DOA characters underage and the lesser cast characters 18+?
