I feel like my sheet is getting a little stale.
Ima just put my
email sixsidedsapphire at hotmail.com
deviantart kairu-hakubi
coldfusion on paheal

and then this random one-off shit I've drawn for various unusual reasons that isn't fanart or waifustyles. well technically one of them is fanart but it's fanart of a book my friend made.

I feel like we were really getting somewhere in the last thread with the marios and the on-model animes and such.

Has anyone ever commissioned Turk? what it run ya. I hate when artists don't list prices.
>>
>>1285833
Sometimes it just sucks to be pinned down to a certain price point and then people naturally try to squeeze everything out of that tier that they can. art is a handmade product, it has to have a custom price quote.
I used to say that with the confidence of knowing I charged less than most, but lately people have been dropping their prices, so I'm pretty much at the second lowest category, just above 'throwing it away for pennies'
>>
>>1285841

I understand and respect all that but as a buyer I at least like to have a ballpark. Toss up a PRICE MAY CHANGE TO REFLECT COMPLEXITY.

Commissioners often design their picture around what they think it's going to costume them too.

>>1285857
yeah a ballpark is fair. I just feel like the margin of error between any two randomly chosen pictures that are the same category on paper is too large for that ballpark to mean anything
in any case I doubt anyone looks at my art and assumes I charge too much.
I'd go with "Starting at.." but everyone seems to start at 15, and I generally feel like almost any finished product is worth at least 18 the way I finish them up..
HOWWEVER lately I've been giving more thought to unfinished crap like this, that I might do as a request randomly in some thread... that still looks nice, but takes a lot less time. I bet some people would be happy to get this kind of thing at a discount, and if they ever wanted it finished, I could offer that at a discount too
>>
>>1285639
Are you on the /aco/ Discord?
>>
>>1285865

yeah but my whole point is that when a commissioner wants a pick they first look at the prices and then work their way up from there.

Say I have a 100 dollars to spend on a pic and I want a picture with 3 characters. Im going to look for artists that I can afford.

Maybe it's just shyness but I don't think a lot of people want to just randomly message a person and hope they can afford it, especially without any guarantee of an immediate or soon response.
>>
>>1285935
yeah I guess that's.. bleh, maybe there isn't a neat way out of that problem. but I DO at least always reply immediately.

Anyone got any tips on how to get an artist who doesn't do commissions to do a commission?
>>
>>1286493
Offer a ridiculous amount of cash
No tiptoe around it either so you don't annoy him
>>
>>1286493

Give up and find someone else. If they don't want to do it you can't make them.
>>
>>1286501
This. Offer double a comparable artist; keep it short.

If interested at all they might counter-offer. Or at least reply without you pissing them off
>>
>>1286065
How much do you charge to color someone else's line art? I like your cell shaded style
>>
>>1286501
>>1286527
I offered him $200 and he turned it down. Someone even offered him more and he turned them down too. Fucking pisses me off.
>>
>>1286557
jesus, i'm not sure who's more insane
>>
>>1286557
$200 isn't ridiculous. $2,000 would be closer.

But if they don't want to do it, they don't want to do it. Pestering them will only drive them away.
>>
>>1286596

I don't have $2000 T⥐T
>>
Wonder how long it takes most artists before they get bored of a certain repetitive theme, if they get enough commissions from one person aiming for that theme. I like to commission but many of my concepts are pretty simple iterations of pin-ups, female masturbation, or relatively vanilla sex poses.
>>
>>1286608
for me it's about 4-6 depending how bad it is
unless the money's realllly good or the content is really quick so I don't have to linger on it long. LIngering on it is what really makes me start to hate it
>>
>>1285048
I currently offer two kinds of commissions, fullbody and halfbody! you can contact me on my furaffinity, Limebeatz, where you'll find my prices (depending on commission type between 15USD and 17USD)
I'll draw nearly anything! this includes furry, watersports, gore, tf, ganguro, shortstack, cuntboys, futa and so much more
what I seriously WON'T do is bestiality, scat and mecha
message me and I'll give you my email and stuff :p you can also contact me at limebeatzafterdark.tumblr.com
>>
>when the artist has great colors and shading but awful anatomy
>>
>>1286611
I try to at least vary it up so that I'm not giving any artist the same exact idea twice in a row, and at least change the characters up a bit.

Additionally, I wonder which tires out an artist faster most of the time, drawing the same character but in different scenes, or drawing different characters but pretty much the same subject.
>>
>>1286608

I tend to request the same characters a lot but usually I try to mix things up some by having them in different positions or situations. Plus the people I hire tend to get really good at drawing them after so many times and that's a plus.
>>
>>1286627
some of them are smart enough to just color other peoples' stuff for money
>>
>>1286639
gotta be the latter since you still have to redo it every time (they wouldnt just let you trace the old one, surely), whereas the same character lets you learn to do them more quickly, eyedrop from the previous, etc
>>
>>1286608
A good artist will know how to change it up, if you give them the leeway.
>>1286557
Don't be a baby. He has a right to draw what he wants and making a fuss that he doesn't draw for you, even for cash, is just childish
>>
>>1286553
Maybe like 10 dollars? depends on the complexity
>>
>>1286679
I've noticed with a couple of artists I've commissioned that they were very quick to get the first couple or so pics completed, but by the 3rd or 4th pic it took them a lot longer to get them done.

It might be just that they became busy, but I'm sure part of it is the initial enthusiasm for a new client wears off, not to mention boredom if the theme stays awfully similar from pic to pic.
>>
>>1287270
yeah that's definitely something I do, but it's just because at that point I need to give other people / other things my attention. that customer has gotten the quick first stuff guarantee, but at a certain point I have to be done. Like, you've gotta call some of it the end of the work day and take a break

take the cost of doing a single picture (hopefully without shading, right? you're not a masochist. probably even without coloring)
multiply by number of frames
apply bulk discount, perhaps 20%
realize you could never reasonably expect anyone to have that much money
give up

Hi guys, actually looking for some opinions here.

1) Would you commission a traditional artist?

//I've wanted to open up commissions for awhile now, but I feel like noone takes interest unless you do digital. (which is'nt an option for me bc poorfag)

2) If you were to commission me what do you think it would be worth?
>>

Also please none of that, "well ur the artiz charge wat u think is gud" if I knew a good price range I would'nt ask for more opinions. :u

>>

and can you comment on said tumblr or whatever? i don't have tumblr but i think it has that..
i would say 3 more days until you're owed enough of an explanation that you can safely tell us the name. before that it'd be jumping the gun
>>
>>1295592
OK I thought so too. It's weird because I've had a good relationship with this artist before. In fact this time I actually paid for two pictures, she even finished one, then zip, nothing out of the blue on the second one.
>>
>>1295596
if you've had good exchanges before then I'd extend that number to at least 3 weeks. that means something's definitely wrong.
it might help if you let her know you arent mad or anything you just want an update
>>
>>1295290

Considering their stance on gore, it's probably only soft vore where nobody gets hurt.
>>
>>1301618
Protip; if the end result satisfies the client, it's not lazy, it's efficient.
Tracing only becomes a problem when an artist relies on it too much and uses it even in situations where it makes the end result worse.
>>
>>1301742
so what about soft rape then?
>>
>>1301752
tracing is a problem because it takes no skill and oftentimes uses other people's work to make a buck. it's leeching off someone else's work. Sorry but tracing is unacceptable, if you trace your work you are simple a hack fraud
>>
>>1301742
>>1301723
>>1301719
besides, eating someone serves a purpose, just like killing a deer to eat it. Rape is just vile
>>
>>1301784
Other things that also leech off other people's work and are unacceptable by that logic:
>using reference images you didn't take yourself
>getting paid to draw established characters you or the client don't own
>being inspired by the works of other artists
>making references to a different work in an original piece
Your opinion is noted, but I think I'll stick with the technique that makes me draw faster and cheaper, rather than pointlessly limiting myself.

Because sometimes it's faster.
For instance, I had an off day recently and I couldn't get this character's proportions right. I could probably have spent an hour sketching up a proper perspective grid and doing the pose up from scratch, but since it was a pose that's commonly used in porn, I went online, googled a PoV image of a girl getting fucked from behind, found one with about the right proportions, traced it, changed the parts that didn't look like the character (exaggerated hips, boobs, etc) and used that as my starting point and saved myself maybe 40 minutes of work.

the point is, you copy at first, then you slowly learn how it works. it's like buying a tool from the store to do a job. you just use it because it works, then you get curious, take it apart, figure out how it works, and maybe invent a better one.
>>

>>
>>1302367

No, we're talking about it in general. A very specific series of circumstances that make it okay in that instance don't mean it's okay in any other. The only thing you've listed is the highly specific and generally unusual instance where someone WANTED a trace

>>1302376

Is right, we've been talking about tracing in general not your flimsy defence of a single account where a commissioner would want something traced for them.

We're talking about the practice or lack there-of of tracing a picture.

>>1302313
>It's like buying a tool from a store to do a job
What backwards logic, no, your tool is your fucking pen, it's like buying an already built wall and lining it up against the wall of your house, and then building a brick wall around it.
>>
Quick question to anyone that can answer, If I don't have an official character or sturdy reference, could I describe a character for someone to draw? Would it cost more?
>>
>>1302412
That tends to be the case in most commissions I've had, most people don't charge more for that. It just means you've gotta be clear when you describe em s'all!
>>
>>1302411
i love it when I don't need to argue because you prove yourself wrong
>>
>>1302420
Yeah, I don't charge extra. Rather, I give a discount if they can give me good references (or if I show them a reference I have already and they say it's perfect). It's purely a time thing. Time is money, after all. I price my commissions under the assumption that it will take one or two emails back and forth to figure out what you want.
>>
>>1302412
It's very much artist dependent, as you can already see. Some artists are fine with it, some charge extra, some only accept reference images.
>>
>>1302420
>>1302429
>>1302432

Ahh... Thanks for the responses! I'll probably end up doing that, then just keep reusing one ref image that I commission.

>i've never gotten a flavor of the month commission
on the other hand, sometimes I get obscure stuff everyone has forgotten, so there's that.
>>
>>1302494
I've tended towards giving an artist or two characters from a series more obscure than most, it's nice to be able to provide more porn for something that doesn't get enough of it.

It probably helps that I haven't gotten into anything flavor of the month related, like Gerudo Link, Nier, and whatever else there is right now. (Would have said Andromeda but it seems like all that amounted to was a flaring of drama and then nothing)
>>
>>1302502
sometimes I intentionally draw obscure characters hoping people will commission more
so far no more Bea from Mighty Max, but I'm holding out hope
>>
>>1302184
I already know those skills though. I use them regularly. Usually it's faster than tracing, and sometimes I want to draw something that can't be traced.
But when the situation calls for it, why wouldn't I? Nobody's awarding points for effort.

>>1302364
An artist tracing makes their work a half assed knock off in the same way that an artist using a custom texture brush makes their work a half assed knock off. Not at all.

>it's like buying an already built wall and lining it up against the wall of your house, and then building a brick wall around it.

>>
>>1302903
>Building your own brush tool is the same as copying someone else's work.

Okay I think we can see how deluded you are now, there's no hope.
>>
>>1302915
You'd get something unique, though. If all I did was trace and call it a day, you might have a point calling it a copy. But I don't.

>>1302927
I charge by the hour. I don't claim anywhere that I never trace, and I've yet to have a client that requested none of the elements be traced, so I don't see any point in wasting my client's money on it.

>>1302928
I guess you could argue that there's a difference between tracing your own work or works in the public domain vs tracing shit you find on google and that one is morally/ethically wrong.

But since everyone's fine with using other people's work as reference, you'd have to prove that there's a meaningful difference between reference and tracing, first.

Well, a meaningful difference ethics-wise.

Using reference trains your hands and eyes in ways that just tracing stuff doesn't, but when you look stuff up on google, whether you keep it open in a different tab and glance at it for reference or just import it into your art program so you can trace over it directly, you're benefiting from the work of the original creator without offering them any sort of compensation.

Bud even when I was starting art at 6 years old I still never considered doing that shit. I get it if you are a complete beginner with no knowledge trying to learn the fundementals of art (even then there are better ways). But selling that? I'm sorry dude you cannot claim something is your own when parts of the lineart are lifted from other pictures. Why trace at all? Create your own image! And when professionals are using reference, from life or photographs, they are usually rotating that shit in their head and not following the actual picture at all. When I am using a reference, I could pick between a hundred similar photos for a ref and the art at the end would look identical, because I am using the ref to guide preportion, understand form, etc, not to copy

Are writefags accepted here? There's no /elit/ so I guess this would have to be the best place for it.

What you mean commissions for stories?
>>
>>1307589
Pretty much, yeah. I've done some requests on 4chan in the past, and I seem to have a net positive reputation, so...

Might want to, you know, post a portfolio or rates or something like that.

/d/ has their own Erotic Literature thread, but you're still welcome here. A commission's a commission!

Would you be willing to write some digimon x human smut?

My price for coloring starts at 5$ to 35$ based on complexity.

I should have been more specific. Porn itself has kinda turned boring to me. I'm tired of seeing dicks and characters getting fucked. I'd rather some slight lewd rather than boom SEX. I've went from degenerate fetishes to wanting vanilla
>>
>>1308594
Same here, man. I'd rather see romance and slight lewdness than hardcore fucking and explosive cum everywhere.
>>
>>1308594
I'm with you so hard there. I feel like too much porn, especially drawn, has taken its cue from pre-contact japanese porn. The kinda shit where they were wearing clothes because nudity was no big thing for them but clothes would denote status, and then they had to draw big obvious genitals peeking out so you knew who was who because they drew women the same ugly-ass way. everything's distended and lurid.. instead of being cute and happy and fun like my japanese animes were from the 60s-90s
>>
I've got $400 to spend on commissions, and have only four questions.

Who here can do pretty good hypnosis
Who here would draw a dickgirl, if it was in the commission details
Who here is real damn good at drawing hardcore anal
Who here would draw urethra sounding on a dicjgirl

Requests. Im not really complaining against any artists, they don't owe my stingy ass anything for free so if they don't want to they don't want to, so really mostly Im just tired of asking for handouts.

Also Aigis fags are really annoying.

Won't draw vote? What's wrong with you? Are you some sort of communist? Some sort of Imperial or crown worshiping peasant? If I want a picture of a naked Raven from Teen Titans casting her vote for Beast Boy's penis, with the penis in question obviously being the arm of the voting machine, am I going to have to go somewhere else?
>>
>>1312146
Does the PWYW mean pay what you want? I'm just trying to verify here.
>>
>>1312700
that was actually an r, not a t, but...WOW did you just created a new fetish?..then beast boy can make a poop message saying thank you for your vote or something like that!
>>
>>1312838
A poop message? It says right there, no scat, obviously I wouldn't ask for that. I'm just a man with a patriotic fetish for superhero girls to vote for the dicks they most like to be fucked by, with said dicks being involved in the process in some way. There's no need to bring poop into this.
>>
>>1312869
Oh, I'm sorry for beign disgusting, I didn't mean to ruin your vote fetish!!!
>>

>>

yeah that's what it means
>>
>>1312898
I didn't say anything about it being disgusting, It's just totally beside the fetish of voting.
>>
>>1312906
>commission list is full at the moment
Coud be a white lie, a necessary one at that. They didn't like what you wanted drawn and thats the way you politely turn down an offer, by simply saying you are too busy. Just try another artist anon and see if they are willing
>>
>>1313022
Thing is, my request was actually a pretty tame pin up and I've left this guy hefty tips in the past. I see no reason why he would lie.

Still, its not like artists are a rare resource.
>>
>>1313107
You gotta remember brah. Artists, writers, their psychological history.

They're not exactly the most mentally stable or mature of individuals.

I single handedly caused the hartists website to fall apart back in the day because someone didn't sense my sarcasm in that chat and proceeded to ragequit the site.
>>
>>1313193
this is sadly accurate
>>
>>when you commissioned an artist who posted in this thread and the commission came out better than expected

It's a strange feeling but I feel good about it. Might commission them again in the future; but I want to commission multiple artists. Spread the wealth and all

>>
>>1315899
sweet lord, it's like chris sanders had a stroke, and then had a different kind of stroke

i like the subject matter though. and this guy's good at drawing cloth and haircurlies
>>
>>1315251
Name names yo.
Artists live for that shit.
Well, and money, that is.
>>
>>1315942
You dont think i replicated Chris Sandersart style well enough? Well, the client thought so, that's all that matters.
>>
>>1316413
that is indeed all that matters. and i like your art in general
as it is chris sanders draws some pretty freaky proportions sometimes, so I won't judge it harshly. Just that there's an awful lot of little oddnesses such as the length of each part of both her legs, the hand and forearm proportion, the height of the boobs, the way her head doesn't go back very far in back.. eyebrows not leaving much forehead.. ankle twisted 90 degrees from the knee.. y'know. stuff like that.
>>
>>1316416
Alot of the oddness is me trying to replicate such odd proportions but i see what you mean.
>>
>>1316416
I took your suggestions and now that i look at the updated image, i can see what you mean. I would love to know what you think.
>>
>>1315433
