Been to japan, can confirm that its not just sex, it moreso just being out of the ordinary.
Like if you stay home a little mor ethan regular, they treat you like a disgusting hermit, but if youre out a lot, then you fall to the exact opposite end of the spectrum. Of course not all people are like this, but its definitely a lot more restrained culturally than somewhere like america. Not that americas necessarilly better, just that one culture leans more towards being yourself than the other. I suspect this kind of repression is part of the reason why public molestation and the newer generation of japanese peoplejust not having sex are such huge problems over there.
Like i said, not trying to just shit on japan, just a cultural observation from an outsider looking in.

What are you fucking talking about? Japan has always been sexually repressed, with the behind the door activites always been particularly "degenerate" by all accounts. This isn't without even talking about how missionaries have only been able to remain in the island without being eventually decapitated over the last 60 years, and they are basically non-existant in numbers even today. Let's not confuse sexuality repression with modesty. The Japanese people have always been fairly uptight about sex, but see little issue with non-sexual bodily exposure.
