I think its worth at least emailing them and getting a sketch or something because a lot of people, myself included, only post commissions because that's all we have time to do.
So what you're seeing may not exactly be what that artist likes or is into, but rather what they've been paid to do.

Got a new commission done.

Unfortunately, my experience with commissioning people from 4chan has been sub-par. Only one actually finished the commission, the other four just stopped working on it and gave up. I'm about to talk to Paypal about getting my money back on one, because I haven't received an update in about a week now.

If you're going to offer to do commissions, realize that I'm giving you money to perform a job, and in doing so I have faith that you will do it. I'm more than happy to pay whatever it takes to get my commission done, but shit like this makes me not trust you guys.

I've messaged two people from this thread recently for more simple projects, let's see what happens.

This is the guy who's currently snubbing me. I asked for a six part commission, so far one of the images is done. He had lineart done in the first week.

And yes, that is my commission. Since there's four characters, it took him two sessions to get it done. And then I forgot what day my commission slot was, so I forgot to ask for it (which is weird, because I thought he'd just send it to me when he's done). Oh well, it's done.

Anyway, my problem is that I try to be too nice to commissioners. I understand that a lot of them are just starting out and struggling, so I try to do what I can to support them (and get some fap material out of it). Unfortunately, I'm losing my patience and my kindness.

Read above. Lineart was finished in a week. The actual coloring and such is at three months. First contacted on Janurary 20th. The last contact from him was two weeks ago (now, 20 minutes, I assume because of this post). So far, still one colored picture after three months.

Even if you're doing something you've done so often that you don't actually have to do the construction, it's still important that you could. sometimes I actually do some lineart then go underneath it with a sketch and realize I need to tweak it a bit. Like especially if someone's wearing a big voluminous flowy outfit and I'm like "oh yeah, I know what that looks like" then once it's done I sketch the body underneath and go OH whoops that knee wouldnt be there

Aside from hiding your name, do they add any safety to your cash? Do they cost anything or just normal PayPal taxes?

The main benefit I've seen to invoices, particularly when it comes to digital/virtual goods is that it essentially creates a bill of sale for the work you did. You can itemize the nature of the commission (how detailed you wanted it, whether any mods were done, level of linework etc etc) which, if the commissioner ever tries to dispute the transaction and filch your money back, you can quickly pull up this invoice and point to what you agreed to do and it allows Paypal to more readily compare it to the finished work.

It's essentially a digital paper trail and keeps artists better protected since before, Paypal had the nasty tendency to basically go "herp derp no "GOODS" were delivered sorry! Giving money back to the buyer now lol bye!" and you'd be shit out of luck with pretty much no recourse.

Also as far as I'm aware, there's no additional cost to using them, but I haven't used them in a while so I could be wrong. However i have heard if you want a good standing in a paypal dispute, you pretty much HAVE to use an invoice. A lot of the bigger artists I see on Patreon now exclusively use them when handling commissions.

Invoices also protect the commissioner, as if you send money directly, without an invoice, then PayPal can say "herp derp that was a GIFT, no refunds, lol!".

Invoices are essentially a contract between Commissioner and Artist, which can be arbitrated by a third party (PayPal) in the event of a dispute (no goods or payment).

Correct! I've had commissioners mainly list the specs of the commission like so:

-Full Digital Color
-Text Bubbles

You get the idea. you can list the major "features" essentially without having to describe the work so it shows you met the criteria of your original agreement.
