Hey guys,
So I've got some bad news about a decision I've made that I know will potentially be a unpopular one. And it concerns the AZL 0.8 build.

I've had a few delays on my own work, that would have set this build back by a day or so (making up for the weekend I lost last weekend due to personal reasons.) I know normally that wouldn't be a problem, however the main issue comes in the form of animations.

So far I have no new animations for the new build intended for today (but still a fair few scenes to add in.) But hopefully they will be arriving soon. To give plenty of time for the animations to hopefully catch up I've decided to delay the 0.8 build by just under 2 weeks.

I know that's not the news people want to hear, but I feel like it will deliver a better 0.8 build over all (allows for me to polish off some new features, such as the melee mechanics, and allow for osme thorough testing.) It will also give me the ability to fast track some extra animations that I didn't think would make the cut (possibly - will have to see how that goes.)

It means those who have pledged for AZL will still get a build this month, which I'm able to do because of taking next month off (OBLIGATORY REMINDER: I'm taking next month off, so don't expect any patreon builds.)

I've also decided to bring the Urban Demons build forward a couple days than intended, so people can access any bug fix builds to these new builds in the current patreon cycle.

Please check the bottom of this post for the revised released dates.

Again I apologise for this delay, but I will ensure that everyone that has pledged this month will get the builds they have pledged for.

I've actually found out that Patreon does not allow you to switch off monthly anymore. They had plans to force ALL Patreons to go monthly, but stepped back a bit from that. Instead, they are strongly advising all Patreons to go monthly. If you switch to instant charge, you cannot do anything but monthly, and you can never switch back.

So, he doesn't really have any choice but to leave it up, or close it down, but that would be stupid. Best he can do is keep people informed and tell them how they can decline that pledge if they like.

The problem is that you need actual resources to have complex gameplay that doesn't piss people off. The Last Sovereign has more game than porn and people here at least dislike it because of that. First, is not our first project nor we have 0 experience. We dont have great experience, that is true, but we have almost a year, which have help us a lot to improve in several areas. Also, the only way to earn experience is by doing shit, unless you expect me to magically have 5+ years of experience. I also didnt had ANY experience about drawing 3 years ago and I have improved a lot in that time, thats how it works.

Second, this is not neoropsychology. Not every job has the same degree of complexity. There are games that are very simple themselves, yet succesful because they are interesting. i.e. I dont think undertale is specially a complex game, but it connects with a lot of people. Same can be said i.e. about Akaburs game. Not saying our game is or is going to be that good, just how things works in regard of games.

Third, is not like I dont have any skill related to video game making: I can code (I do believe probably good enough to do a VN), do art, and my writing probably needs the polishing of a real editor but I don't think is the worst thing in the /weg/ scene.

And we've been working on THIS project only for a couple of weeks, but I've been developing since june last year, and again we waited until we had a demo to open a patreon, which is there actually not to promote this game but the other one, which is a long term project.

To be fair, most "real" games are unplayable up until about 0.5. An enormous amount of times goes into building the bones (art, sound, direction, story, writing, etc) and being able to actually PLAY the damn thing in any meaningful way comes much later.

Patreon games can't do that, though, because people expect results early on. Basically, the investors themselves are the ones fucking over the industry by paying for games WAY before anything has been done. It's like the endgame of the trend of pre-paying for AAA games and paying pre-release alphas and "early access" and shit. I wish whoever started all that would just get fucking shot in the face because it's destroying the market.
