They're two different games in terms of tone and focus. Why the comparison? I haven't played BotW yet, but I don't expect it to have thrilling science-fiction aspect or an the fun of exploring the lore of a new IP.

I'm also not playing Horizon: Zero Dawn to explore a fantasy world and plot out all the different takes on previously treaded ground.

I played this entire game, and the plot's atrocious.
And when I say the entire game, I mean I got every achievement, every datapoint, and the in-game progression counter is at 100.00%
Every story mission, side-story or otherwise, is centered around women being better than men. Every. Single. One. It's fucking sickening. A few days after I beat Zero Dawn, a friend of mine let me play his copy of BotW for an hour and a half and holy shit, I've never loved Zelda more.
If you call Zero Dawn good on any basis other than graphics, you're a moron. Gameplay is par, sound design and soundtrack are fine but aren't memorable.
Should've been a 60-65, but because of how much it appeals to Libtards of course it got an 88.


Aloy's abs are amazing, though.

I'll agree with this on parts.
I did enjoy the world and the detail, and you could tell there was a lot of love put into the designs.
But there were parts of the game that left me severely unsatisfied.
Boss battles that learned nothing from Metal Gear Solid (and guerilla can do a decent boss fight. Radak was pretty fucking sick.)
Core gameplay mechanics that, while fun, lack depth. Once you find a strategy that works, there's little incentive to not use it.
Music was... I can't name a single tune.
Story was... Barely carried by the investment in the world. It started off strong and kinda face flopped.

Crafting lacked any sort of reward beyond numberd... It wasn't a pleasurable experience. When you crafted something, it was usually just so you could keep throwing yourself at things.

Don't get me wrong, I loved every second of it. Aloy is a smart, scrappy and endearing character.
Aloy is Bae.
She's flawed, vulnerable and warped by the land around her into something completely unique.
But I can't, forgive some of these glaring game faults.
I wanted badass fights with robot dinosaurs and a likeable character.
I wanted more then that.
I loved the badass fights and the character.

But, they really need to up their game for sequels.

Some of the fights feel like battles of attrition. It felt too forgiving at times. Once i realized the game rewards you for thinking ahead it felt like it was on easy mode.
I felt like the gameplay was there to support the writing. A lot of games feel like they have good writing, for a game. This just felt like good writing. Like i was playing through a really excellent season of television.

One mission has you track down a noble's daughter, find her trapped on an island by a snapmaw, after killing the snapmaw and grilling her about what it is she is doing, she reveals she is having secret rendezvous with an enemy soldier across the lake, you have to swim across and sneak into an enemy outpost to rescue him. Granted that is one of the exceptional side missions but that's just a side mission.
