Playing around with Ellowas' Mercy model. Nonconventional rig, so I don't know how to move the clothes or fingers, if they even have bones.

For some reason it takes forever to render, even on a fairly strong GPU.

I remember seeing on tumblr a 3D modeler asked for suggestions on his/her next model to make. I remember two of the possibilities were Garnet from Steven Universe and Lord Dominator from Wander Over Yonder. Sadly I can't recall who the artist was, which really frustrates me. I wonder who was chosen. Not sure if he/she was using SFM or Blender...

it doesn't matter how good the renderer is when the model itself is from poser/daz/makehuman or whatever. it's just a generic model with various features stretched and squished with sliders. no matter how much you toy with the sliders it will always look like a creepy doll. to get decent characters in 3d you need to either 3d scan real people or have an actual artist who knows human anatomy sculpt the character from scratch.

(basically think about mass effect and how the default male shepard is a hundred times more realistic than anything you can make in the slider-based character creator, because the default face is a scan of a real dude)

but 3d scanning is expensive and learning to be a real sculptor is hard so 99% of 3d porn used to be creepy dead-eyed poser garbage. then sfm exploded, and one of the major reasons why was that sfm porn is still low-effort but at least by stealing video game assets they can have appealing faces (made by real 3d artists) instead of creepy bulbous nightmare dolls like this: >>1233519

It doesn't have to look real to be good, but it does have to have a specific style it aims for, and then actually hitting that style, to be good looking.

Of course, if a picture has enough other things to it to be good, then it can help make up for a lack of style. Like if it has a great setting, or tells a hot story, or hits a specific kink, etc.
