With the disclaimer that I've only seen the second I'd have to say that's somewhat of a mis characterization. Herby and differential, sure, but the latter can be a strength when played as nonchalance, and even the former plays into her impression of him as wildly exotic. Plus he's pretty damn business savvy, and is clearly unfazed by being the the one beating heart in a Hotel of the Undead. Those aren't the sorts of characteristics normally described as beta.
