I think evolution is a box that Bioware doesn't want to open. If you explain how asari skin color evolved, you kinda have to explain everything else about Asari evolution (what kind of creatures did they evolve from, how did they evolve their unique reproductive cycle, etc.). And then it would be strange to not explain the evolution of Turians, Salarians, Quarians, Batarians, Vorcha... you get my point. Even pre-EA Bioware would hesitate to put that much work into such small details.

Biotics and mass effect fields are blue because of blueshifting. Asari are blue because they were created by Bioware to be classic alien babies with an exotic skin color. Additionally, asari are supposed to have strong aquatic imagery attached to them. It shouldn't need to be explained why the color blue is used for that. The wavy folds of cartilage on their heads is supposed to be reminiscent of the long hair of a woman emerging from a pool of water, her hair matted into ropes. Thus the wavy folds.

Asari blood is purple because of the element zero in their bodies, by the way. Their hemoglobin equivalent, whatever it is, is purple for the same reason human hemoglobin is red - iron. Element zero is probably to asari what iron is to humans - inorganic, but biologically important.

Bioware actually explained an absurd amount of this stuff, though mostly in flavor text. That said, the entire Asari uplift thing was an entire thing in ME3. Even if you didn't have Javik it's still pretty damn in your face and talked about in the temple on Thessia.

Personally I think ME3 trashed the lore, especially asari lore. As a reminder, the initial question was why the Asari are blue. Talking about the uplifting doesn't really answer that, unless there's a moment where Javik says "We decided to make them blue, because [reason]."

While it may be true that Bioware put a lot of detail in the codex entries, and I won't pretend to have read every one of them, they generally did not concern themselves with that level of minutia with regards to the physiology of the different species. For example, I very much doubt that the codexes explain why so many species are bipedal, despite this being such a disadvantage compared to quadrupeds or other means of locomotion (flight, swimming, even crawling like a snake). In fact, the uplifting makes that even MORE illogical: humans evolved from quadrupeds, but as our ancestors developed more utility from their forelimbs, it became more advantageous to evolve into an upright, bipedal species, despite the sacrifice to things like mobility and stability. Without the uplifting, a flimsy case could be made that each species followed similar paths (flimsiest of all for Turians, whose avian origin suggests that they may have sacrificed FLIGHT for more usable forelimbs), but if the Protheans took such an active role in guiding the evolution in so many species, they could have found a way to give them usable forelimbs without sacrificing mobility, like just adding a third set of limbs or something. If you're designing a species from scratch, bipedal is basically the worst way to go.

Forgive my tangent, but I wanted to demonstrate the level of detail that Bioware clearly and unapologetically does not concern themselves, nor should we expect them to.

Also, non-Thessian species that are brought to Thessia have a chance to become biotic just by exposure to their eezo-rich atmosphere. Jack's varren, Eezo, for example, was a stray varren (a Tuchankan species) living on Thessia that she adopted. The rest of your points here can be addressed with this.

You are assuming other forms of movement (or other aspects of biology) are more advantageous without reason to do so. You are making all sorts of assumptions that X is better than bipedal, or that it would have been better to give forelimbs AND X. For example, you can't just have a humanoid sized creature that's a practical fighter if you give him wings. If literally nothing else, the weak bones make him a massive liability in terms of injury, and given that you have advanced tech that negates the need for natural flight (or X), it's really a moot point.

Beyond that, we know for a fact that the Protheans were monolithic, in just about all aspects, so what makes you think they would start making massive changes from their normal system just to accommodate specialization? There's a reason human militaries don't overly specialize; because it's a pain in the ass for the occasional benefit, and it more often results in failure. Further more, no one has said anything about "designing a species from scratch". No one, The Protheans found species that they considered to have the most potential and guided those to be counters to the reapers, either in their cycle, or the next.

I'd agree that Bioware has reduced the amount of detail they put in, but you've already admitted you haven't read the Codex entirely. Why should I have to list more? An individual organism can become biotic via exposure to eezo, either accidental, like with Eezo, or intentional (albeit temporary) with Red Sand, or more dramatically, Cerberus' intentionally exposing colonists to eezo to try to boost the number of human biotics. Most non-asari species have the rare biotic individual.

As far as I can tell, the only canon examples of the protheans genetically manipulating the asari is with biotics. The rest of the things they did to the asari were social and cultural things, like giving them arithmetic and agriculture.

No it can't, it's a clear response to Liara saying Athame gave Asari the ability to use biotics. Amps are irrelevant because we're talking well before the Asari could even conceive if such a thing, over 50,000 years ago. Liara states that Asari had the ability to use biotics when Athame gave that to them, irrespective of other considerations, and Javik explicitly supports this.

It's not vague at all. That's literally what happened. It's literally what Liara says, what Javik says, and what I quoted from their dialogue on Thessia. Paraphrased this time because I already quoted in this writing,
