I've been lurking around these threads since August, and have been thoroughly hooked on commissioning since then, with very few disappointments across the different artists I've contacted. Only one in fact has failed to deliver so far, and I still want to hold out some hope.

I meant to ask this some time in the last thread, but commissioners, how often have you ended up disappointed at the end of a commission process? I imagine I'm one of the lucky ones.

Just got here. This is by far the most successful I've ever been putting my shit out there.. more than deviantart or furaffinity ever got me.. no matter how much I put up commissions signs, they're like "oh you do commissions?"

I'm somewhat picky when it comes to choosing someone. Out of the all the pictures I payed for I would say that three of them I would regret commissioning.
I've been here since the beginning of the shilling threads and got about 10-15 images from a handful of artists here. It's nice to see the oldfags improve and also see some new blood arrive.

I want to say my first lewd commission was in August of last year, and I've been pretty happy with every artist I've dealt with. Closest thing to problems was Salmon going awol, which he ended up apologising and making good for, and I think her name was like princess Sarah or something, who only delivered half of what I payed for, but admittedly, her prices were easily 50% what I was willing to pay, so I ended up just getting average value and a sense of frustration.

Sometimes I have difficulties sounding specific when I shill artists immediately after a commission, because pretty much all of them are at least passable in each regard of friendliness, professionalism, turnaround, and value, so I try to stress which of those were most pronounced on that artist. I don't know if it'd be uncool to just start ranking artists I've dealt with over the last few months x/10 in each of the 4 categories, plus any notes.

Speaking of, just got this from phally ( phallybro.tumblr.com ) super friendly, and just reworked their prices so the value is top notch.

If you're using PayPal, you have the artist's name as well. I had the same concerns when I started, but, surprisingly, most people who commission work are super cool and aren't looking to screw you over. I use paypal invoicing to get my payments, and to keep a nice record of what's being sold to whom and so forth, and while I do have to connect a bank account to send the money to, I do not have to provide the customer with a name. Paypal business allows one to use a company name (my handle) to be on the invoices.

That being said, I'm relatively new and outside of the community. I haven't talked with anyone else who does this, or have info to go on outside of just watching the boards. I keep names out of all my end commissions because it would be bad business to ensure that people who buy from me have their names or emails or handle exposed. If they choose it, they can re-upload, re-blog, use the image they paid for however they wish to include citing themselves as the commissioner, but I, as the commissioned, have nothing to gain except potential headaches.

I don't know of a code, but on my end, it's impractical. Don't want to scare away potentials who may be worried about commissioning something they don't want tied to them or anything near them.

Well, typically I like styles that are cartoonish/anime like, but still have somewhat realistic proportions. Sanfiw is a good example of an artist I've commissioned before who can deliver that. Hyper realism and exaggerated proportions don't really grab me.

That's a fair bit out of my price range. I was looking for someone who is willing to work for below scale, and basically almost of free.

At 15 bucks a piece, that would be around 600 bucks total. That's far, far too high for what I expected to pay. There are also many cheaper chibi artists who work for around 5 bucks a piece, if not cheaper.

A chibi artist who creates in this style often can knock out a chibi in around 5-10 minutes, which is roughly 6 an hour. There was an anon in here that used to do pokemon transformations or something like that for around the price I'm looking for in a chibi style.

Almost. you're almost there. You've just gotta study a bit more construction and get things better under control.
major issues include:
>asymmetrical horns
>tail clearly made as a 2d shape with lines added on
>arms not drawn with elbows taken into consideration
>toes too separate and feet both too small and drawn too formulaically
>recessed pelvis
>navel facing too 'up' for this angle, and found too high
>head is tilted forward but nose still upturned
still you have the basic body parts down, most of the features look nice. You don't need to pay much individual attention to those issues, just in general practice your construction and they'll solve themselves. and don't be afraid to copy poses verbatim from art you like.

You know that word, right? Work. You want an artist to work on something for $1.5 per picture. Also no, even if you don't color or shade it, there's still a process for everything. What if the customer wasn't clear in the first place and the first sketch requires changes? What if the face isn't right? What if the pose/angle is difficult, regardless of the chibi style? What if, even if the point of chibi is simplifying the figure, it becomes unrecognizeable due to lack of a certain detail and the customer ends up unsatisfied anyway? There's plenty of missteps that can occur even before you get to outline a drawing.

These are the kinds of things people need to consider when they start spouting bullshit about charging "too much." All things considered, a lot of artists on this thread, myself included, are charging too little, regardless of skill level.

Well, whats their policy on communication if any?
Have you tried contacting yourself?
Are they they "OH MY GAWD CREATIVITY IS NOT TO BE RUSHED! YES THIS INCLUDES A $5 SKETCH!" or similar?

Also:

Artists or writers, do try to take care or pricing and time ahead of time. Kind of sucks ahead of time for both sides discussing something for awhile and discovering price (wanted from either side) is way off from the other would expect. Or finding out there's a massive line after said discussion.

Not to say things could cause prices to go up or down after discussion, just know going back and forth on e-mails kind of sucks when its something a client or artist decides not to do.

I may have been a bit hyperbolic in the last post. "Broke" as in "spending a bit over my usual budget for commissions". The only thing that would happen is that I would have to cut back on other expenses and such

Basically everyone should try working together, especially since artists have budgets (both monetary and temporal) too. I always try to get my communication in asap, and if it's going to be a while, I let them know.

Any commissioners want to share ideas they're coming up with?

I want some ideas on how to spice up some futa.

Like maybe take two characters and costume swap them?

That's a fairly cute idea. I'm not much of an interesting commissioner myself, and nothing I have would likely be able to help spice up futa since it's not my typical thing.

Most creative ideas I've had so far have been time-skip comparisons (as in, a picture featuring the same girl doing similar acts at different ages we've seen them in), an idea of making pin-ups of nude girls from mecha-based shows and games while holding plushie versions of their mech, and an experiment I did where I gave a few different artists the same basic concept for a picture--in this case, Zone-tan masturbating in her bedroom surrounded by sex toys and porn--to see how they did things differently from each other with the same concept.
