Those are their helmets. All official art without their helmets portrays them as skinny, pale humans with pointy ears. Some artists try to play up the xeno factor a bit through their facial features (mostly the eyes), but besides that they look very human.

Macha's face is described in the GW novel that came out with DoW1.

Interesting enough, when Relic began work on DoW3, they were trying several styles of "3 markings on each cheek," the specifics of which remained volatile through 2D concepts and even the 3D model - when abruptly and suddenly at the end of her development, they switched to the /tg/ look. In their dev blog, it's not explicitly stated why they made the switch at the end, but you can guess. Someone must have seen or known, and when word got out amongst the design team, Relic knew what must be done.

I just skimmed through the series to find its description of Macha, and I can conclude that she is never given a description beyond "beautiful even for an eldar" and "green eyes." In the third book, her hair is described as "silver in the light of her meditation chamber," and "fair" once elsewhere. That's all I could find.

Now, with that said, I know Goto gets a lot of flack, but man, the Macha-Gabriel interactions were actually fun. She goes full tsundere for him in the third book, "Next time I see that mon'keigh, I will kill him," to lusting all over him for the entire fourth book. Hell, every time she sees a Blood Raven, you can just hear the SPLOOSH as she calls out, "Gabriel? Gabriel!" "No, I am Captain Ulantu-" "Gabriel!" Then there's that whole monologue too about how she hates those stupid mon'keigh except Gabriel. "She knew he was different from the start." His mind is worthy. He is worthy. He is special. Her fate is tied to his. She must- How DARE Taldeer go on adventures with HER Gabriel?!

I don't know what is infamous about the kidney part, but it was just describing the location - there is a line that explains the wound is characteristic of bolter fire, and then a line that says where it is. Hell, I may as well just quote it.

Yeah, you haven't even begun to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

What book? I haven't seen anyone but Andy Chambers give enough of a damn to write about the deldar, and his deldar are flawless - he even managed to made the shift from the old models to the new ones seamlessly mid-series (like the first time a character encountered the new talos). As far as I'm concerned, Andy Chambers' deldar are the only canon deldar, and that includes his work with FFG.

Those are indeed just a few segments, separated by many pages and battles. Yes, people got fucked up - especially when the team entered the warp and their protective field failed - but regardless of Goto's other works, which I haven't (and probably won't) read, actual scenes of brutality are few and far between in the Dawn of War series.

For example, the near death of Macha and the actual death of Inquisitor Ptolemea at the climax of the third book is as inexplicit as

Yeah, I got that from a google search. I can't find it in my pile of ebooks though - I did, however, find that it was written in 2006. Four years before the deldar revamp. Back then, the dark eldar were extremely different in theme - they were written on the same level as chaos both in actions and response. And I can't find the pdf right now, but there was a short story back then that shows the Fall from Vect's perspective, and the deldar loved and hated Slaanesh equally after her birth - saying the old Lelith Hesperax worshipped Slaanesh back then is not out of theme with the deldar until 5E dropped. Heck, in the 3.5E codex, in one of the little blips, the deldar scorns the craftworlders for "denying the pain and pleasure that is their rightful heritage." And lastly, according to whoever wrote that Vect article, the deldar built Commorragh inside the Eye of Terror after the Fall - it didn't exist in the webway before then, which lends to the Lelith description of the time.

I noticed in my google search that you're drawing from the 1D4chan page, but that's straight stupid. The whole page is cherry picking everything they can and claiming it's everywhere. They are also wrong in places, like the avatar without its Wailing Doom. The book itself explains it as:

Ah, I found the Vect story. I made a couple of mistakes - the survivors built a settlement ("which would become Commorragh") in the Webway to diminish the Thirst, but when they found that that didn't stop the thirst, they began to offer up the souls of other races to Slaanesh in their stead, hence Lelith's "ancient compact" that Goto wrote.

At the time, Slaanesh was still The Great Enemy to the deldar, but they had something like a business arrangement with her.

A friend gifted me (for real, not the Bloody Magpie version of gifting) the first novel for my birthday quite a few years ago since he knew I had been playing DoW for quite a while. And how does that justify the mass shitposting that actually led to their removal?
