nah, plus I cant complain, so far the state of the game is too early to expect people support. Hopefully I can build up something that is worth the interest of the people, but until them I would be fine if I reach the bare minimum to keep development.

You know, am I the only one who doesn't view four elements as a truthfully incredible game?
I just finished playing through the first book and I have to say that I'm thoroughly disappointed. Let me explain, the game itself is quite good and heavy with content but that's just it. There is absolutely nothing unique about the game. Lets take for example a random Renpy game like Library Story. Sure you can have your agreements and disagreements about the style but it is still fundamentally it's own type of game seperate from everything else.
Summertime Saga. Questionable art but still largely independent on it's style of gameplay and flow.
The same thing can be said for most of the big renpy games in here.

Four Elements however, seems to me like a blatant reproduction of an already successful niche. Take serious notice of my words, I am not saying that the game is a direct copy of Akubar's games but it is done in such a way that makes it feel pointless. There is absolutely nothing "special" about the game that would make me play it over witch trainer aside from the fact that it has more content and the art might be more appealing to certain individuals.
Even the battle scene looks similar to the fight in witch trainer. Everything is fundamentally the same which makes it hold a lack of afterthought interest.
By that, I mean, when you play a game like library story or summertime saga. While you may have had your fap and finished, you're still somewhat interested in knowing where the game will go. For summertime saga we all know that it will eventually have sex scenes within it. The same applies to library story. We all know that they will eventually have sex scenes but the matter is HOW we will get there. Nobody knows the exact steps that we will need to take in the story in order to get our first sex scene but in Four Elements, we know that it will be a rinse and repeat of the previous styles.

Additionally, I don't think reproducing a working formula is *that* bad. 4E isn't the only one that's done it, CtI did it too. People use this formula because it works and I'd say it's better than the more experimental mechanics where you have no clue how to progress. The mechanics aren't overused enough yet for me to avoid them on principle.

If you have an artist who is able to do all that work, what on earth do you need a patreon for? Take a look at almost all the patreon descriptions of all the devs here and almost every single one states that if they reach a certain goal, they'll hire a better artists, get more art done, etc etc.

Hey, so unfortunately I'm actually the wrong person to ask most of this; I don't ever hire writers or work with other writers since I do all the writing for my games myself :(

I will say though that AGDG on 4chan, both the general and discord, are good places to look for fellow game devs, so that might be a good start; Lemmasoft forums generally has a large amount of writers, as well, too.

For another alternative, contact LewdLogic over at Lewdgamer; he knows a ton of devs, far more than I do, and I'm sure he would know of some who need work/are skilled writers.

As far as expenses for writing, when I did do freelance writing, general prices for base-level writers is around $0.03 a word, so for a 50,000 word script you would be looking at $1,500 or so. Really good writers can charge up to around double that, so $3,000 for the same amount of words.

As for the current release, not much. You can get different jobs at the school - the only one that matters is tutoring, where if you get a Critical Success (IE, have high stats), you can influence and later fuck a black teacher. It's not a bad start, but the mechanics really bother me.

You can't assign someone to work unless they have no fatigue. Then they work when you change days, and all the fatigue of working is carried into the next day - meaning you cannot work that day. So at the bare minimum, you can only work once every 2 days. So for Korra, 2 days is 140 upkeep. Yet, when she works, she gets about 40 dosh. That's a 100 net loss almost guaranteed.

I tried training her and spent my first 1000 training to get her mouth skill up. Not only did it not go up (from low to normal), but her average income for working barely raised from 40 to around 60. Not even enough to pay off a single night of her upkeep, let alone the two nights it takes to work that one shift.

So playing with Korra is an automatic net loss.

I tried Riven next. Her skills are way higher than Korra, and her upkeep is only 30. That's great. It means I'm not at an automatic net loss. After training her (and discovering that +1 skill gain * 50% = 0.5 skill gain = 0 actual skill gain, IE she never gained any lust and gained 1 deprav after 10 training sessions), and after getting her to level 2, the very best she could do without refusing any clients was about 120 dosh in her one-shift-per-two-days.

That tells me that even if I had 10,000 dosh and spent it all into training Korra, she'd still never be close to paying off her upkeep cost. I tried Tracer next, saw 150 upkeep cost, and closed the game.

The mechanics are extremely flawed. Being able to work only once every two nights with an upkeep cost that steep just doesn't work. I also don't like that you can only do one thing a day (if that, considering work). What's the point of fatigue going from 0 to 100 when everything takes over 50 and doesn't let you do something else? Even Korra, who natively knocked down some things to only 49, still couldn't train twice because I assume the game's conditional branch didn't account for her ability.

Yeah man you got me there, training gain stats are NOT balanced at all. Sorry about that. I need to buff them indeed. I want to make the training to really give you a boost, so you don't loose too many days training, thats part the reason the training CGS are unavoidable. The buff is coming surely next update.

The rest is also not well balanced right now, because the jobs that will come next are going to do that balancing act that is needed, specially the wetworks.

You'll be able to raise fatigue to double, in next updates through leveling..

I do understand your points and thank you for letting me see that much clearly. But also I ask you to hold on a little more till I update the game some more.

I'd say yes, it's worth it. I mean, even if you just pretend "The game ends automatically on day 30" or whatever, you'll experience all the content there is for that character. Just don't commit sudoku by buying another girl. Just let it end, and start anew with a new girl.

The game isn't hopeless, and there is obviously a ton of effort in it. It's just broken in a couple of its mechanics.

It's a very short demo though. There's like 4 or so different events when the girls work, and two more for training. I'd say you could probably get an hour out of it if you read whats being said.

Hey man, no worries. That wasn't an angry "I wasted my time playing this" post. It's just feedback seeped with a bit of frustration.

I don't know much about renpy, but I have a lot of experience with RPGM, so I'm used to the little things that go into development. Just a couple more things, since you're here and reading:

That, I'm pretty sure, is what causes Riven to never gain lust, because her -50% gain trait is turning 1 into a decimal, and then it's chopping it off.

Having to check on each girl at the end of the day, even if they did nothing, is tedious. Sort of like how you gave the choice of "quick or full" for working girls, you should have a minimalist, maybe even a single line, summary of what's up with her (probably with Fatigue and Health, as they are most day-to-day relevant) whether she's working or resting with a button to one-click-skip all the rest. So you click to end day, get presented with a summary next to those names, and you can click to end it then-and-there or click on the names like usual.

Ditto for assigning girls. It's a lot of clicks to get someone actually working - I'd rather have them be in a working state, where they go back to work automatically when they're fatigue is back. However, since your game is a lot more focused on the individual girls than the collect-a-thon of the usual brothel games, I'd say this part isn't too important to me.

The first time boobjob showed up, I clicked right through (on autoclicker) before realizing it was a new scene, and but the client-recap thing doesn't let you rewatch anything. I had to wait the 2 days to get another chance at it. Fortunately, you do have the tooltips to say what each client was, so it wasn't hard to find another, but I was stuck wondering if I missed a first-time scene.

Have an edit I did because I like pubes.

That's what I did, I suppose I just was unlucky and didn't hit Z/X keys when mashing the keyboard. Random buttons didn't do shit and I thought that the game was broken or I needed to update some drivers/software for it to work properly.

Yeah Ive got problems with the decimals in renpy, while I dont cut them, I think renpy does it automatically when showing them onscreen or something like that, I'll have the check that. Apart from that the gains from training do need a buff. The problem becomes how much is too much without going to the other extreme and making the game to easy...? I mean i think I'm balancing the game through the lenses of not making the game too easy and myabe Im falling on the other side.

The rewatch mode I intentionally took it out, renpy has it on as default. I might put it back in, tho I dont really like the idea in games to just go back and redo outcomes... tho rewatching scenes is a different matter I concur.

If you count "eastern inspired art" as "not a western game" then 95% of /weg/ games in development right now don't count. If you really want to go back, a lot of the earliest anime was directly inspired by Disney, so anime is still western to some degree thanks to that, and vice versa with a lot of western styles using cues/inspiration from anime nowadays and throughout the years (Avatar, for example).

So guys, I already added stuff to the mandates, in the sense that they do shit now.

Also, I added (well I did that a couple of days ago) a stat thats named "Political Power", who is different from reputation.

Again, reputation means how loved or hated is an NPC, but its not a good enough stat to determine how important or not is an NPC in a city, for that, you have political power.

The more political power, the harder will be to move someone from its position. They earn political power through efficiency, so, the more efficient someone is, the more power they will gather, while they can still be unpopular since the reputation takes another stats into account. Also, certain positions have a limit to political power, i.e. you cannot get more than 200 political power as a councilman, but as a priest you can go as up as 500.

So I think the framework is doing pretty well, and before the dev build I only need to do the first scenes for the MC mother, which will do in the next hours, so expect a buggy dev build likely tomorrow (after I test it a little and make sure it doesnt crash, fixing random bugs along the way first).

Also something thats in this frameowork already is the idea of factions, although this is more complex and not sure if I will execute this properly, the idea is that they will have like 20 actions per turn, where they can use their political power in attacking NPCs from other factions (reduing their reputation or PP), or helpìng theirs. In the future when a position is open, you will be able to give it to either one of your own faction or an NPC faction, geting loyalty and relationship
