I was always of the opinion that in most cases 3d truly is pig disgusting as far as artwork goes.
Maybe it's the uncanny valley effect, or maybe I just never outgrew my weeb phase completely, but most 3d work rubs me the wrong way.

Obviously then I haven't looked that much into SFM, but if I think I've seen some that was okay in that format. I suppose if I'd say one thing it's definitely stay away from models that were imported from fighting games. Mind you fighting game girls are designed to be very attractive for the most part, but a lot of fighting games also have models that are specifically made to be viewed from certain angles and/or in the game's pre-set poses. When you freely pose them around or mess with their positions it starts to look wrong as the proportions of their styles stop being complimentary.

Then again I might not know what I'm talking about. I'm no expert or artist of any stripe, I'm just a guy who occasionally commisssions actual artists to draw something. (And also occasionally subscribes to Patreons. When does this month's reward come out Cypress?)

Of course sometimes anything, even an art style one doesn't like can be better than nothing.

I was thinking lately, does anyone remember that old Hypnovideo site? In addition to the live action videos he had those poser renders, some of which were just pictures, some comics and simple animations. They were pretty godawful looking, but some of the ideas in them were actually pretty hot/interesting. On the subject of eyes, here's some of the best candidates:

Blank eyes: A solid white eye. Very simple texture.
Rolled up eyes: Just have the character look up until most of the iris is hidden.
Flat eyes: These eyes have no reflections or highlights and no pupil. The eye is a solid color.

It does seem to me like there's a fundamental flaw in Cypress's business model, that at some point it becomes inevitable that we are giving him money for nothing. I don't think he's even really scamming us or doing this intentionally, like I said, it's just an effect of how it's structured.
The point is that when his funding passed a certain benchmark, then Cypress could quit working day jobs and devote himself to his work on the h-games full time. The problem though is that the limiting factor isn't really how much time Cypress spends on them, but how much time the artists do. And that's what really slows everything down. If Cypress really did devote every waking moment of ever day to the games, then conceivably what we would end up with is the scripts written out and edited multiple times, the game engines proof-of-concepted, all potentially years in advance of what the artists actually have gotten around to filling the games with.
Cypress mentioned that he could never hire artists as employees for real, but maybe sometime in the future might possibly look into some kind of subcontracting relationship that would obligate them to prioritize work for him. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like unless things come to that point then it will be inevitable that there will be periods that Cypress's Patreon is paying him to be idle.

As someone who's been following DHB since he first posted that Legend of Zelda comic, I like this guy.
