Serious question, what do you all define as a "Visual Novel". I see that term being used here quite often but it seems to be mostly something that panders towards an individual style. The basics I've noticed about a visual novel is that they involve choices and multiple selections. If so, does that make a game like Witch Trainer a visual novel? If not, why not?

Visual Novels are usually more story driven (with the characters personality changing little), while Witch Trainer is, well, a Trainer Game. You don't progress a story arc so much as you train a girl to become more lewd.

Now of course all games have some amount of story and some amount of character progression but it`s the focus that tells them apart

I don't think people typically define VNs as requiring choices. Many popular VNs have no choices to make. A VN is just a game/piece of entertainment that is primarily text based, but which may have various enhancements of the text, like sound, simple animations, and yes sometimes choices. Therefore games like the Witcher do not fall under VNs because they clearly are not 'primarily text based' since theres huge amounts of animation and voice acting. Of course, VN is one of those terms that youll get 100 different definitions for if you ask 100 different people so Im sure Ill get told Im wrong, butt fuck it. :^)

Summertime Saga updating "soon"

Here's a list of new content to expect for 0.09:

- 4 New locations

- 2 new characters

- Revamped phone UI and new Quest tracking system

- All in-game characters will now be standing in backgrounds (accessible)

- Sister's computer will now be accessible also

- Many new story events and dialogues across many characters

- Many new mild sexual encounters

- Rap battle mini-game polish

- New telescope scenes

- New shower scenes

- "And More"

And I know this will make you fuckers happy so this is the plan for 0.10

Starting with 0.10, the updates will focus on only 1 character story but all the way to the end (or, near end). This way it will be easier to focus on one segment of the game, and reach scenes that have more hardcore content (eveyone's waiting for those). Obviously there will be small additions to other parts of the game in each update, but 90% of the work will focus on 1 or 2 characters.

The definitions vary. Typically, Visual Novels are defined by the fact that they're primarily text-based and have few, if any, choices/interaction. To me, I think you're barking up the wrong tree. Manga or comic-style hentai might be more your style. No need to move or interact or do anything "meaningless." Just read the story and view the pictures.

comparing patreon fap fodder to one of the best rpg games of the decade is laughable, so i'll disagree. i loved playing through witcher 3, but there was meaningful exploration, so no complaints about horseback riding there, or movement around the world in a number of other high profile open world games. i did find hardly any interesting side content in adventures of tara, so it indeed feels like a photo album with a story, and an illusionary attempt to create a game around it. for example, the first potion lesson - player sees the same sequence, classmate hopping out of map border to collect the quest item right under the player's nose, a number of times. 1 time okay, an random event. 2 times - okay, an unlucky pc plot twist. it happens 7 times, all while you are traversing an unnecessarily widely branching from corner to corner, like a dog chasing a frisbee. id like this game as a vn more not because of some preference of porn comics over porn games, but because i find the level of exploratory gameplay and content to be below a generic western one-man porn game. it would help if the porn was at least something interesting, but it really isn't either. a low amount of generic 3d art slapped ontop of blackmail 101 storyline.

I'm not comparing to say the game is better. Why did I know you'd start by saying something like "You can't compare Witcher 3 to a porn game, blah blah." The game is question is not the point. Not gunna lie, I'm slightly disappointed with the Four Elements update. I was hoping that it would be the same amount of content as their first release of Book 1. I understand that they probably had a lot of time to work on Book 1 before it's release, and the completed Book 1 was easy to do because it just needed writing and not new art (mostly). I just hope we won't have to wait 3-4 months to get Book 2 on the same level as 1.

As you said, they probably worked more than one month to get the alpha for book 1 at the point we saw it first. They said that book 2 is gonna be bigger than 1 on every aspect and from this alpha we can clearly see that is true. I don't know how much time they gonna need to finish book 2, but I think it'll take 3-4 months, but if the final result is bigger and better than book 1, I say that the wait is worth. Anyway, I think that with the next update (I guess it'll be around christmas) we will get a version with a lot of good things in it.
