I think it's one of the reasons the anime isn't as good as the manga, I won't say it ruins it because it's still good but takes away the feeling when reading it.

The same goes for everyone else and the songs are not really good either.

I watched the anime then read the manga. Despite the obviousl flaws of the manga's story BECK's allure is in how it tells you the story and how it feels real. I have some acquaintances that were in a amateur band and I cant tell how much of the stuff is portrayed in BECK, It shows that the author(s) spent time in that scene.
The anime suffers of low budget, but the adaptation is good, but it ends at the "middle" of the manga's story. In the anime the go to muhrrica and make it big and they live happily ever after, in the manga just getting to the US is a part of a bigger adventure and more hard work.
If you liked the anime I strongly suggest that you read the manga, its way better.

The fuck m/a/n. BECK was like 90% band related stuff (yes the hard times they have counts too) and 10% mako. Even the first girl was out of the picture quickly.

I unironically love Beck.I read through the manga at just the right time in my life and I was really inspired by Koyuki and co's story.I was always a bit of a musician and BECK heavily inspired me to continue on that path.I still listen to the OST all the time and dream about having a 'Greatful Sound' esque moment.

Reading the manga gave me an intensely nostalgic feeling from when I played bass in a band in high school. I remember the awe I felt when I discovered other people my age that were putting as much effort into their music as I was. I also remember the fighting about styles and direction and the clash of egos mixing with all the real world shit going on in the backgrounds of our lives.

That's why I like it at least. It's definitely rough around the edges as a story, though, and I can't really relate with the Japanese music industry. Not really buying the idea that Japan has much to offer doing rock tours in the States. Also the whole 'mysterious evil weeaboo black producer' thing came off as really fucking stupid and corny.
