Pretty much that novel series and is where a lot of shows, after it aired, tried to emulate, copy, steal, deconstruct many aspects such as genres, style, quirkyness, and story. The novel came out in 2003 and the anime in 2006 and no anime was quite like have a pefect balance of story, SoL, sci-fi, etc. that nothing like it was nothing like that. Since then many shows and stories picked apart at the story, taking pieces out, and expanding on them or just trying to copy them. Newfags have already seen the story of Haruhis plot by the time they get around to Haruhi from anime made today and think its nothing special due to the copycats. Any newfag saying shit about Haruhi, due to their shit tastes, should be put in their place every time.

There's symbolism sprinkled into every endless8 episode, with the symbolism tying directly into the fears of Yuki Nagato. This symbolism helps the viewer empathize with Yuki to a point that would've otherwise been impossible.
