Let's try to get a manga thread going. What are you reading, /a/? Pic related comes out soon-ish, looking forward to more Tadao. Anyone else read his works?

Manga is the poor man's anime. You can't disprove that.

Based Hiroya Oku's Inuyashiki and Kentaro Miura's Berserk.
I bought Kakegurui Vol.1, but some anons shut me down in another thread telling me its a mere fanservice manga, so won't be buying anymore of it.

Has anyone read Tanabe Gou's Lovecraft adaptation? Dark Horse published it a couple months ago, and I completely overlooked it.
>>
>>162193912
I bought it day 1, yet to read it though.
Hopefully they publish the other Lovecraft adaptations.
>>
Just read the last volume of Soil, it's definitely one of my favorite manga so I'm really thankful to hox for wrapping up the translation. The only thing that confused me was some of the conversation between Ms. Kosaka and her son about the black dog.

>>162193912
I had browsed through the raw a couple years ago, it has very nice art.

Yeah that part was a little confusing too. The son admits that the black dog-stuff was all just a lie but I get the sense that the author also meant it as a foreshadowing element. In this case, the moon hiding the sun to allow the son to escape the black dog should be interpreted as the mom covering for her son's crimes so he can evade society's punishment.

Meanwhile, the black dog could be interpreted as some sort of metaphysical concept of death (the birth-death duality of existence is why the "black dog" existed at the moment of the universe's creation). And in this line of logic, the black dog trying to eat the boy before he's born refers to the mom trying to kill her unborn son through suicide.

Whether or not this black dog dream does really have a higher significance, I think it's pretty clear that one of the more significant pages in the flashback revealed in the final volume is this page, because this is a pretty explicit reference to the "original sin" of adults creating a disastrous chain of effects for the posterior generations as I already talked about on my site.

What confused me is that I first thought it was implying she had aborted before Youhei, and that the dog was some kind of psychological representation of the previous baby and the sin being abortion. But it didn't make any sense after since it shows her as a single mom and the part where Youhei asks if it's his fault she didn't go to Germany.

I recently read Sekai Oni. It was a fun ride if strange-for-no-reason at times.
I read the first volume of Sengoku Yonko.
I was reading BnA but dropped it when the MC kept using his power several times, despite broken shattered arms, even going something like 1000000% power against a super strong enemy because plot armor. I was not too engaged anyhow and wasn't terribly interested. Too many trite tropes as well.
I am going to reread Conviction soon, probably in the morning.
>>
I'm 9n the third volume of Helck. It's getting more interesting but I'm really glad the tournament is over (for now?)

Munakata Kyouju Denkikou, but I'm probably going to drop it. It's kind of dry/formulaic relative to Hoshino's sci-fi stuff, and is getting increasingly silly with random supernatural / ancient aliens-tier conclusions to some of the stories.

>>162193219
>some anons shut me down in another thread telling me its a mere fanservice manga, so won't be buying anymore of it.
So let me get this straight - you didn't bother to look for opinions on the manga before buying it, but you still care enough about random anons' opinions to just give up on the thing you already bought without trying it? That seems kind of backwards.

>>162195292
I'll take this opportunity to shamelessly hawk this chart we finished yesterday.

Fuck, thank you. No Sutakola?
>>
>>162199799

>>
>>162199799
I love Munakata, waiting the second series to finish to start reading, it feels like a history class.
>>
>>162199974
> it feels like a history class
I don't really disagree (aside from the supernatural parts), but I can't really call that praise for a work of fiction. It feels like what narrative there is is all just dressing for Munakata to give his exposition about whatever various historical/mythological things have been thrown into the blender for that particular chapter. If I wanted that, I'd just read up on those things.

Finished Nickelodeon. My only Dowman work before this was Voynich Hotel and this was pretty much the type of shit I was expecting from him. Some of the stories felt boring and pointless like that dude who lost that robot Pokemon Battle but most were pretty cute or fun and learning how connected they all were toward the end was pretty neat.

Also, I unironically enjoy Alien 3 too, best MC
>>
>>162200313
Strange, because I like it because those reasons that you dislike it. I love the supernatural and historical made up shit there, its really fun and entertaining.
>>
>>162193109
I never read any of Tsuge's work, but his art looks super interesting. The fact that an old school mangaka is releasing new material is super dope. I'm going to try to read Trash Market if I can find it.
Currently trying to catch up on helck, reading Patlabor and a bunch of shoujo-ai.

That's a cool list, and I'm definitely checking out some of those josei. Though, I never got into mononoke Soushi.

You worked on a horror anthology titled Man-Eater a few years back. Yesterday I wanted to practice translating an entire volume in a day. I picked the companion title, Tetsunagi Oni (other half of the bunko).

It cool if I release that once it's typeset, or did you already do it? Wanna make sure I'm not sniping it.
