D Gray Man has many problems but the characters are not one of them. Boku no Hero Academia? Half of the characters are interesting, the problem is that the other half are added as filler to fill up space and distract from it. Without them, we'd get some good dynamics.

Naruto's only problem were the lack of female characters getting spotlight but Kishi seems be doing better with that recently. Nanatsu no Taizai's only problem is Meliodas, Elizabeth and Hawk, all the others like the other sins and even holy knights are fine.
