The problem with Flip Flappers is that it had too many "best episodes" to really pick one.


The horror/yuri parody school episode. The visual novel multiple Papikas episode. The Iro switch episode. The fist of the north star mad max episode. The trippy rabbit point of view episode. The mecha homage hotblood episode.

Flip Flappers oozed creativity in concepts, themes and execution of short self contained stories.
It was even great at slowly developing the characters and their relationships in both subtle and unsubtle ways.
But boy did it suck at slowly building up a concise long story and at going into the backstory and the conclusion.
All of the Mimi parts could have used tweaks to optimize their delivery somehow.

I had the same problem with the LWA anime. The shows were just so much better when they were stand-alone eps about cute girls going on well-animated homoerotic adventures. The actual plots stink.

The scene with the solo was beautiful though and worth it in my opinion, but I agree that the show had wasted potential. Not only because its world and war is interesting, but also because of the crazy ritual thing they just nonchalantly threw in. They never fully explored that and we only got a few glimpses of what happened. It feels like you could make two separate shows based on both the war and that eldritch horror thing.
