How can anyone stand to watch a show with such hideous character designs?
>>161849865
I actually tried it for the character designs because I like them and remind me of Gundam Seed but I couldn't get into the story.
>>161849865
Because the plot and characters were good, past the first half of the original series.
>>161849865
The OP and ED are pretty good
(And thats about it,, yes)
>>161849865
I don't know, people here praise Clannad and Code Geass
I'll fight you.
>>161849865
Because everything else about the show is awesome.

>bothering to shit on the like 5 fafner fags on this board
phew
>>161853508
He saw the thread on /m/ where someone explained why it's pointless even try to talk about Fafner if there's no new information. He's obviously just seeing if it's true.
>>161853623
There is sometimes a fafner discussion in non-fafner threads, but that's it. I even had to go to /m/ when s2 was airing because making thread here was pointless.
>>161853623
Well yeah, Fafner doesnt really have an influx of new watchers and people who have watched it have already discussed it sufficiently.
>>161853774
Although it does seem to have a nice following in Japan, since it managed to get 3 seasons and a movie.
>>161853912
It's super big. I don't why is it so dead here. Do people just discard it because muh hiraiface?
>>161854038
Eh, maybe it's a combination of old + not well known in the west + Hiraiface. I doubt that there are more than 10 anons on this board who watched Heroic Age either.
I still don't get it
Wasn't bad enough to drop it
Wasn't good enough to enjoy it
>>161854413
Festums have shown multiple times to be reborn after death. Soushi was a Festum-made human.
What makes me more surprised is the fact that Kazuki's still alive.
>>161854038
>It's super big
Thats a bit of an exaggeration. Just for comparison: Exodus 2 has less than half the fans on Japanese MAL (anikore) than Tsuki ga Kirei, which wasnt all that popular. And had 1/32th of K-On. So calling itsuper big is quite the stretch.
>>161855808
I'll suck this series off all day but this is my one major criticism of Exodus. I really can't think of what else they can do with his character except maybe explore what it's like to be a parental figure as he raises Sushi2. I felt like him finally dying would really close out his character arc nicely and reflect on one of the series' themes of making sacrifices for the next generation.

At least it gave us episode 9. It may have been cheesy, but I was really hyped when they arrived. Also great soundtrack for the moment.

>>161853912
That has nothing to do with having a following. Fafner is Xebec's lovechild. No matter how small the shows following, they will never drop it. Thats why we get a season once every 10 years, its why Xebec works on shit like Clockwork Planet to accumulate funds. Fafner is Xebecs greatest work and they take their time to craft it to utmost perfection.
>>161854312
>>161854038
Oh, and to compare it to Hirai face shows: SEED has more than 8 times the fanbase on most Japanese websites. So no, Fafner isnt big bt comparison and it doesnt need to be.
>I don't why is it so dead here
And to elaborate on that: There are a variety of reasons
1) Dead Aggressor looks like shit and you wont understand anything in Exodus if you havent forced yourself through it
2) Dead Aggressor first half has shit pacing, which makes it even harder to force yourself through it
3) Its about giant robottos, something most westerners hate by default unless its shounen shit like TTGL
4) The story, world building and overarching plotlines are too "complex", you actually need to listen and pay attention to understand whats going on
5) Sure as hell doesnt help that by the time a new show/movie comes out, boatloads of people will have moved on from anime since it took Xebec 6 fucking years
>>161849865
canon didn't suffer for this kind of bait
>>161849865
They grew on me thanks to Gundam SEED.
>>161854312
I got a decent sized Heroic Age thread on /a/ a couple years ago. It seemed to have some traction here.
>>161849865
This is one of the most pathetic attempts at shitposting I've seen in a long time.
>>161856387
Is that by the same person who did the it wasn't me ED?
>>161854413
Jesus christ it's been almost two years and this ending still triggers the fuck out of me.
>>161860633
Is this bait? Anyway, yes, you're right. She did some openings for K Project too.
I can't watch this show because it looks like SEED
>>161849865
Aviator needs to stop shitposting.
>>161860695
I might just watch Fafner for this.
>>161856102

It's drastically different to SEED.

angela's music for Fafner has always been a notch above the rest of their stuff. There's an interview somewhere where the two leads of the group said Fafner is special to them so the music they compose for it isn't like the rest of the anime stuff they do.

>>161860874
Right and Left was so fucking depressing.
>>161860874
That is cute.
Fucking casuals don't deserve Fafner.
>>161860934
How'd you feel when you realized 'Right of Left' really meant 'the rights of those left behind'?
I wonder how Ubukata manages to write both awesomeness that is Fafner and shit that was PP S2.
>>161861105
Who cares, it's a niche show.
There's very few actual sci-fi anime.

I'd say Xebec's greatest work is Break Blade.
>>161861525
The last movie was shit though.
>>161861525
Well, my response to that would be that youre an uncultured swine.
>>161861549
Why? Because you wanted 1:1 faithful manga adaptation?
>>161861572
Yes. Borcuse death was so much better in manga.
>>161861606
How does altering one or two scenes make the entire film shit in your opinion?
>>161861694
They also cut a lot of details from siege.
That and animu Delphine armament was lame.
The first five movies were good though.
>>161861525
Damn, 2199, Fafner, LoveRu Darkness and Keijoo should all be insulted.
>>161861525
>>161861802
I forgot Nadesico and Outlaw Star
>>161861802
>including haremshit
It only exists to fund another Fafner installment.
>>161861842
Point being that its a downright insult to call Break Blade Xebecs best work (when most of the work on the movies was done by I.G. anyway). They have produced much more compelling shows that this butchered manga adaptation. Is the manga even ever going to go anywhere? Is that one of those hiatus mangaka who draws a chapter when hes in the mood?
>>161861309
If by collaboration you mean killing the dumb bitch and her friends in some gruesome fight, then I'm all in!
>>161861888
Yes, Break Blade is basically on permanent hiatus.
>>161861919
Why would you kill it?
You can always sacrifice them to Mir for UNDERSTANDING.
Asura crying for the Angela OPs - worth it? Or terribad?
Fafner is UNDERSTANDING done right.
The best way to achieve understanding is feeding humans to ayylium hivemind.
And it's totally safe I swear.
>>161862103
Wow, it's been some time since I've seen that one. It's forgettable IMO.
>>161862469
>Not letting your psychic loli do the talking.
I just downloaded everything (took fucking forever), and I'm pretty excited to watch it all.
>>161856437
>Its about giant robottos, something most westerners hate by default unless its shounen shit like TTGL
I'll never understand this. What guy doesn't like giant robots?
>>161862599
You're in for a wild ride if you manage to sit through the first half of the original
>>161862566
That loli was generated by feeding the pregnant woman to ayylium hivemind.
>>161862599
There are faggots that would take CGDCT shit over giant robots.
>>161862633
To be fair, I have watched ~150 mecha entries (according to the site I use) and I can kinda see why. No genre is as hit or miss as mecha. You either get something that blows you away or your get something that is so bad that its almost comical, mostly thanks to the horribab CGI.
>>161862599
>I'll never understand this. What guy doesn't like giant robots?
Because they are "unrealistic" and look "funny". Thats basically what most people will respond with. SnK is fine, but mechs are unrealistic. Theres no point in trying to understand them.
>>161862599
>>161862623
If he sticks it out till episode 13 it explains everything and then everything become way easier to understand.Rewatching it becomes pretty rewarding, too.
>>161862623
I can survive the slog that is the beginning of most modern Harvest Moon games, so I think I'll make it through this.
>>161862633
>>161862773
>There are faggots that would take CGDCT shit over giant robots.
>Because they are "unrealistic" and look "funny". Thats basically what most people will respond with.
I guess that explains why ID-0 had no following on /a/.
>>161862875
Don't forget to watch Right and Left, anon!

FUCK;_;
>>161862875

Dead Aggressor>Right of Left>Heaven & Earth>Exodus
>>161862875
>I guess that explains why ID-0 had no following on /a/.
If it weren't for an Id-0 thread here I would have completely missed it, though. The CG didn't look very good and I actually thought it was going to be some sci-fi CGDCT.
>>161862875
>tfw id-0 translated and subbed by a dead thread on /m/

>>161862975
I was just about to ask the order in which I should watch Right of Left. I'll add a note in my spreadsheet.
>>161862996
>>161863029
The CG wasn't the worst thing I've seen, but the show was good despite that--which was nice. I'm still conflicted about the space loli though.
So is this the "mecha that are dead on /a/" thread now?
>>161863102
The OG Fafner also has meh to bad animation.
Both Heaven&Earth and Exodus look far better, with much higher production value.
Basically everything that Xebec does exists to fund another installment of Fafner (that or Yamato).
>>161863202
Mecha is pretty dead in general bar occasional Gundam (and IBO was shit).
Who the fuck even though of letting Okada write a fucking Gundam show?
>>161863232
That's what I gathered from reading the thread. I'm still hyped though.
>>161863322
The shitposting storm that'll occur when Geass's new season airs will make you wish that mecha was really dead.
>>161863412
>Geass Sundays but full of /pol/tards and redditors and whatever
I don't want to see that.
But I will anyway.
What I love the most about Exodus is the battle scenes, because you realize that if they'd had the budget during DA, DA battles would have been like this.
Unironically the best battle scenes where it isn't just 1 on 1 death matches in mecha. Also Maya's 3 on 1 death match verse the Nuns cucks is amazing too.
>1 young girl in a torn dress piloting a Fafner with only it's subweapons that hasn't had proper repairs in months vs 3 aces in top of the line Fafners with the latest weapons
I have never enjoyed a PSSSSSSH NOTHING PERSONAL fight ever as much at that one.
>>161863687
Ye, these were nice.
I liked Kazuki vs Aviator the most.
Pictured : Maya when she isn't suppressing her Power Level back.
Soushi and Kazuki WISH they were as good as her, but they relied on their OP CRUTCH MECHS too much. Can you imagine what Maya could do in a Salvatore Model?
>>161863841
Maya could've hijacked Mark Raison though (hello Ubukata).
>>161861286
Fafner is his own work, where he has freedom to come up with as many ideas for the world, setting, and characters as much as he wants (within the limits allowed by the director and other staff).
PP S2 he was locked under the conditions of a movie coming out, while also limited by a setting created by someone else. He can't make events too drastic or game-changing because it would conflict with the movie, and had to settle for a middling plot that literally went nowhere.
>>161863888
She was planning to self destruct. She likely went after the Sieben instead of the Raison because of the Sieben's superior maneuverability and how it's tuned. The Raison is a flying brick based on the Mark Fumf, it's not tuned at all to her skill set and Hester might have had a code to disable it's Fenrir. She needed her speed to get in close enough to detonate.
It's why despite her being part of the main trio, if she does end up getting the Raison one day, I feel it's gonna get the Nicht treatment because it's like the exact opposite of what she likes to pilot
>>161864094
Acktually Raison has enough firepower to wipe out the entire sub fleet that carried the Tyrants.
>>161864038
It was mostly limited by the movie.
Ubukata loves torturing his characters no less than Uro.
>>161861286
Ubukata's main problem is that he NEEDS freedom to write well.
With GiTS and PP his hands were literally tied by the amount of executive meddling in those franchises.
With Fafner, which is a passion project for Xebec, he not only has more freedom, but the entire staff gives a lot more feedback since the people working on it, are only working on it because they love it. Compared to GiTS and PP which are franchise shit trying to cash in on brand recognition
>>161864139
Once again, Maya isn't a Fire Power type specialist, she's precision and speed and her goal wasn't blowing the fleet up. It's why she still has trouble with Billy and the cunt, because they managed to close the distance since she was wasting time readjusting every shot to be non-lethal.
It was "I will blow myself up if Hester does not stop ROE Alpha"
>>161864176
GiTS, yes, but PP is not a big franchise per se. Also Mardock Scramble was bad.
Ubukata is hit and miss.
It's very much hit for Fafner. The setting and worldbuilding are very nice, and the alien psychology is even nicer (fuck it's so fucking rare. Gotta re-read The Gods Themselves).
>>161864225
No, I mean Raison has fucking "nuke everything to shits" button. Would've worked fine against old cunt and her nukes.
That and F R E E Salvator.
Fafner is great. I think people considering watching it should watch Right of Left first, as it might make them more interested watching the first half of DA.
>>161864352
Absolutely do not do this. Watching Right of Left before Dead Aggressor robs the OVA of its gravitas and also won't make any damn sense to new watchers without finishing the first season.
>>161864038
I don't know. The system allowing two instances of the same user at the same time using 2 dominators was beyond retarded, and so was the system overloading from a few people using it at the same time. You would guess they would be a little more careful while developing something so important to their society.
New season when? I wanna see what a more well-adjusted teenage Soushi is like.
>>161864403
It worked for me. I didn't know they were going to die, so it hit harder, and it made me more interested in finding out more.
>>161864426
They already announced the Beyond movie, but they are going to be busy with FMP for a while. Maybe in a few years.
>>161864403

You can always rewatch RoL.
Spoilers don't ruin anything. Plus Fafner is a series that lends itself more to rewatches.
>>161864426
Given that Xebec is busy with both Yamato and FMP, maybe 2019.
Ubukata said the script for The Beyond is half-ready.
>>161863841
The thing that makes Maya of Murder great is that she's got no magical bullshit though. She's like Yazan amidst the newtypes, 100% operator.
>>161864473
Oh is Beyond a movie? I assumed it was a full series. Cool.
I love Fafner, it's so niche the shitposting is basically impossible.
>>161864492
Maya's entire silent character arc is amazing once you realize it.
>Start out as an OP as fuck Sniper with probably the only Personality Shift that actively HELPS her as a pilot. [Thank you Dad and Mom, you fucking managed to make a 10/10 pilot after the dud that was Yumiko, I bet Papa spent a lot more time fiddling on her in the lab]
>Gets blown the fuck out by the Scarab type because she's rooted to the ground
>Gets blown the fuck out by the Nicht because she's rooted to the ground
>Clearly asses her greatest weakness because she changes her entire piloting style in HaE, in which rather than rooting herself to the ground, she's learned high speed maneuvering COMBINED with effective sniping and sharp shooting, demonstrating a skill threshold among the pilots that only Canon can even be compared to with her melee combat and Canon had YEARS of experience on Maya
>Honed her skills to the point that she's still able to dog fight with a Festum in a SHITTY PLANE (but this also demonstrates how much of an operator Mizoguchi is because the only reason the Festum got him was because it appeared right on top of him, but he clearly showed he could outpilot Maya still)
>Never locks herself in place ever again, still a better shot than every other pilot
>Able to 1 SHOT A GUY WITH A FUCKING PISTOL FROM A MASSIVE RANGE IN AND OUT OF HER ROBOT
>>161864744
I guess being merciless murdermachines (or making quality murdermachines) is a family thing.
>>161854038
I avoided it because of hiraiface until eventually I gave it a try and I liked it a lot. I imagine it puts off a lot of people.
It screams SEED and Kira but it couldn't be more different.
