Its first episodes made it unpopular as fuck, hence why many people who dropped it still thinks it flopped. It got better later and it sold fine (but waaaaay below Bushiroad expectations).
On the other hand, the game is doing amazing, it beat the crap out of Love live school idol festival and Imas Theater Days

He said the Era of Idols is over because other then the Big established groups like Love Live and Idolm@ster, newer Idol groups are going to find it hard getting to the same level of success let alone any success because the market is already oversaturated. Hence, Bang Dream marks the start of a band boom where Band based shows and anime are going to be the new thing in Japan.

He's right in that the market is oversaturated and it's hard to succeed (Memories, Jihen, Chronicle)

Now admittedly Kidaani could be wrong. For every new Band, there's at least three Idols. Not to mention there's already been several band mobage out like SB69, Banyarouze and before Bang Dream no Band app was able to successfully beat the Idols before it came along.

Also the main products were always the bands themselves and the game, and since those are doing well I think bushi can be satisfied with how the anime did as a glorified ad.
