I don't know why I actually liked this arc. By itself it is a bit boring, but it has some payoff later on. There's something enjoyable about watching a generic protagonist walk into something way beyond his level. The fights between lower leveled people were a nice change of pace too. It also builds up the characters to have that much more impact when the big vol 9 fight happens and Ainz trashes everyone. Raeven was a good character, and knowing all this background information will be great when Best Human Renner breaks their hearts.
All in all, its a setup volume and it does it well.

It was 110% completely unnecessary. The previous chapter already established his character, then this chapter is about him getting beat on to show his us, the readers his DETERMINATION for Hime-sama and righteousness. Something that could have been done in 6-8 pages. Would have left enough room in the rest of the chapter to introduce Zanack and Raven, then ended right when Climb crashes Renner and Blue Rose leader's meeting. Introducing them to us for the first time and ending on a high note.
It just feels like a redundant chapter; mangaka was definitely reaching deep to pad this one out.

Any half-decent writer know that writing about genius people suck, better put all that off screen. Hell, even author strip down all her emotion for easier writing.

Demiurge's farm is very important to the overall tone of the novel and it's more or less omitted in the adaptations. Also, the inner dialogue Ainz is constantly having with himself is something the adaptations can't possibly hope to do as well as in the novels.

Consensus in LN adaptation threads is almost entirely 100% purist, so it's not really worth much.
Demiurge's farm has only barely been hinted at in the novel, too. I do think the original is better overall, but I think the adaptations have both done a decent job and a good amount of what's been cut (Especially sob stories like Bain's and the Death Cultist's) are perfectly fine removed or abridged.
Bain is an important character, but his motivation is more important than the lengthy rambling backstory the LN went with just after his will broke with Shalltear. I think the manga got 90% of the important stuff across.

It's been hinted enough that it has set the tone for the entire thing from the 4th novel onward. I fear that since that has been more or less omitted, harsher stuff from the novel will suffer the same fate. What's been hinted in the 4th novel is that Demiurge is literally using children's bones to make furniture. He's making their parents eat other people's kids. It's pretty fucked up, seeing the duality of a loyal, almost likeable character being this much of a monster. This is what makes Overlord "special", the fact that the main characters are not only OP but also genuinely evil but not cartoonishly so, and a lot of their actions are perfectly reasonable and even admirable. Also, while Brain's backstory wasn't that interesting, if they decide to omit Arche's backstory for instance, it will take away from the totallity of the horror that chapter is trying to convey to the reader.
I feel taht Overlord is a story about a lonely man slowly losing his soul while becoming an evil King, and while the manga does its best to show his journey, it takes a bit of the edge that makes the reader realise this as it's happening.

Arche's backstory will probably not be skipped, because unlike Bains or the Death Cultist's, it's not a hammy flashback right when they're losing. The whole volume 7 could use some abbreviation though, just like volume 4.

It might be better to rank them in terms of effectiveness or competency instead, because smart people can do dumb things. Even Cocytus can arrange a series of guard patrols and at the end of v4, it seems some of Demi's foresight rubbed off on him, while Shalltear was apparently doing quite well with Flatchest Airlines.
As for competency, Aura and Mare rank very high up there (Aura is shown managing a workforce quite effectively) and Mare can pretty much handle all tasks given to him without problems.
Solu and Yuri are also very competent; Yuri does a good job of keeping the sisters in line and Sebas did ask her to instruct her on being a meido, so she's probably quite capable there. Solu being Solu, she can do any task asked of her even if she dislikes it and she's wise enough to know when her master might be compromised.
The main thing is that the NPCs are kind of defined by their quirks and those quirks prevent them from fully using their intelligence.

It's entirely possible that a lot of the higher leveled npcs are also pretty intelligent - specifically, Demiurge's various 80+ demon servants/generals. Then there's specific creatures like, say, Overlord Wiseman that Ainz is apparently able to summon. Something that has "wiseman" in its name must be reasonably intelligent.
