I'm more excited for the Mazinger anime movie to be honest.
I've only seen one yuasa venture. Seems like a top director, animation style aside.
Will I have to be a flaming homo to enjoy this?
>>161737252
No. Devilman is for all types.
>>161736817
Have they released another PV aside from that one I saw a couple of months ago? It looked like a flash animation, but if it's Yuasa behind this I might give it a shot.
>>161736817
Yes. It very well might be the first Devilman adaptation that does justice to the manga.
>>161738876
no but they released a new mazinger pv

it's going to be shit isn't it
>>161740696
It looks like it might be good, actually. Ryo's voice was kinda nice.
>>161741123
was also kinda nice*
>>161740696
Looks great. Extremely high hopes for it.
If it really does adapt the entire manga then I'm hype for seeing mainstream reviewers react to the later parts of Devilman. Even if it isn't a 1:1 adaption, the manga is getting an english release pretty soon, so I'm satisfied with that.
>>161741827
>hyped not for the anime but for some random nobodies talking about it
Huh?
Anyway, I wonder how Yuasa will handle the tone shift between volumes.
Flash
>>161740926
Holy shit
>>161736817
The 'crybaby' part has me worried. If they make Fudo into a new wave emotional faggot it will be a disaster
Yuasa is the superior creator so anything he does to it will likely be an improvement.
LMAO
>>161742389
>The 'crybaby' part has me worried
It's reference to when Akira was younger, he used to cry all the time and was given some stupid nickname, it was "The Fire Alarm" or something.
>>161742424
>yuasa
>superior creator
>his character designer can't even nail nagai's designs even though many other directors have done so magnificently and the demons look uninspired as fuck compared to the manga
Why are yuasafags so delusional? The Mazinger movie looks ten times better than anything Crybsby has offered so far.
>>161742729
pottery
>>161736817
I thought I was, then I began reading the manga. Turns out, the manga is garbage. I'm on page 26 of volume 5 and I think it's the most cliched thing I've ever seen.
However, I'm not a man without reason. It could be cliched because it started a lot of these tropes. I'm looking at an older work that inspired much of the newer things I'm more familiar with, so I must give credit where credit is due...but, I don't know...shit feels done a thousand times over regardless of that realization.
>>161736916
I've never understood the appeal of Mazinger. Granted, i've only read the manga but it was ridiculously dumb and cliche. The only reason I enjoyed it was because of how campy and cheesy it was.
>>161741827
One the first things stated about this anime was that it will be the first to adapt the manga all the way through.
>>161737252
>Will I have to be a flaming homo to enjoy this?
It helps
>>161738906
The 80s/90s OVAs were fantastic, fuck you mean?
>>161743360
>says the faggot posting ippo
Get your shit taste outta here
>>161742851
Why do stupid people always think the goal of an adaptation is to recreate the original as closely as possible?
>>161744256
Because the original manga is good and yuasa will ruin it
>>161744279
That isn't an answer to the question at hand. Adaptations that stick too closely to the source are shit.
>>161743366
The original anime is ten times better than the manga. Manga was good, but it's not nagai's best effort.
>>161744327
That only happens if the source material was shit, but Devilman isn't shit, and it had an unforgettable story that goes across generations.
Why do so many people pretend to like Go Nagai? Do they think they're being really funny, edgy, or ironic by saying they like poorly-drawn poorly-written lowbrow shit?
>>161744376
If I wanted something that was the same experience as the manga I would read the manga. What would be the point of an adaptation if those involved in making it didn't add any of their own take to it?
>>161744407
Spamming is against the rules, pedro
>>161739834
So what is everyone's favourite uncle up to these days, is he still working on Devilman Saga?
>>161744248
Did I say I liked Ippo?
>>161744435
Depends what you mean by own take. Given how the designs are already shit, I'd rather not let yuasa fuck the original story too much.
>>161744504
The designs look far better to me than anything in the manga. Guess you just have shit taste, can't be helped.
>>161744490
There's no cure for shit taste. You might as well end yourself, sorry.
>>161744474
wait, del taco is involved?
>>161744555
Dumb cunt.
>>161744546
>uninspired demon designs
Yeah sure, you have better chances of convincing another yuasafag that his work looks good.
It won't work for the rest of us. Go look at the ovas and see how it's done.
Admittedly, I had high hopes for Crybaby too, but now I've seen the Pv, it's better if yuasa and his staff jumped off a cliff.
>>161744650
Don't see any issue with any of the designs myself. Why would I try convince an idiot that thinks a good adaptation is something close to the original? Every series that gets an adaptation gets retards like you whining about how great the original is. All I can say is please don't watch it and come whine about it in every thread.
No.
>>161744734
>Don't see any issue with any of the designs myself.
How about the fact that they don't have sideburns, and Ryo is ugly as fuck even though he was supposed to be a pretty boy?
Of course you won't see any issue with it, given it's likely you've never seen the wonderful updates done on Nagai's 72 art.
Yuasa is like a step back in every direction.
>>161744861
>they don't have sideburns
Thanks for the laugh.
>>161744929
He's serious, sadly
>>161744929
>Thanks for the laugh
It's not supposed to be a joke. The most iconic part about Nagai designs are his sideburns.
No sideburns = no buy. It's like the most important artistic feature of his work.
Even Cyborg 009 vs Devilman from 2015 dared not to touch his sideburns. What's the fucking point of making a Devilman anime if you're not even going to keep the most iconic parts about the art?
>>161745019
Me personally, I don't watch anything where the characters don't have sideburns, its all garbage.
Lucky enough to get one of the most creative and interesting critically acclaimed directors of anime working on one of your favourite franchises and complaining about some fucking sideburns, seriously. Unparalleled autism.
>>161744929
>>161745139
Everyone I know in the Devilman base is raging hard about the lack of sideburns and they're right. What's the point of making a Devilman anime if you're not even interested in pleasing the original fans?
How the fuck are people supposed to ship Akira and Ryo together if one looks ugly as fuck?
>>161745305
Who knew the Devilman fanbase was so shit?
>>161745073
>>161745139
It's not supposed to be iconic though but contemporary. It was all the fad then but retarded now.
Anyone knows the name of that manga where the protagonist or whatever fights against black needle-like monsters/aliens and becomes monster/alien himself or something? Like all fleshy black with needles and shit.
I remember starting to read it once but then stopped and now I don't remember the title.
>>161745366
Except it's a legitimate concern. I mean, the characters don't even look good in Crybaby even if they had sideburns. Sideburns could have helped, but ultimately, Yuasa fucked up.
>>161745385
Then look at the Mazinger movie PV. They're keeping the iconic style. Kabuto Kouji would look fucking stupid without his sideburns.
>>161736817
I'm trying to be. I don't like the art direction, seems like such a fucking shame to just take something with such a strong visual style and get rid of it for an adaptation. I'll check it out though.
>>161745305
>Devilman fan base
aka Tumblr
>>161745464
Do you think it's a sin for the creators to try to appeal to new audiences by making their characters contemporary? They gotta make money too, sucking the mech fanbase's dick don't put food on their table.
RIP SIDEBURNS
they butchered art and art style to me, ovas weren't perfect but miles better
FUCK
well at least it'll be a decent adaption story wise
>>161745687
>>161745701
Please do not post shit from Twitter.

Yeah these people all have autism but please stop posting it here. We are well aware the outside internet is full of cancerous shit.
>>161745073
fucking agreed.
1987 Akira is the epitome of handsome.
And the sideburns are greatly responsible for this
Is it me or does /m/ stuff seem to have some of the worst and most autistic elements to their fanbases on both sides positive or negative. This kind of stuff seems to really just attract mentally ill shitposters for some reason.
>>161745793
It isn't just autism though. Imagine something like Hokuto no Ken getting a new adaptation and looking like Shin-chan. Or hell, for a less extreme example, Yu Yu Hakusho looking like Sun-Ken Rock. Some shit just ain't right.
>>161745897
>/m/
We're talking about /a/ here. Devilman isn't a giant robot.
>>161745897
But Devilman isn't /m/.
>>161745949
This. Genocyber is Devilman but actually /m/.
>>161745949
>>161745937
All retarded nagai fanbase are from /m/ though
>>161745937
>>161745949
Devilman's been honorary /m/ for years. No idea why, but that's how it's been for a very long time.
>>161745992
I like Nagai and I'm not from /m/
>>161745979
>Genocyber is Devilman but actually /m/.
That's debatable, but the again, if stuff like Guyver is considered /m/ then I guess Genocyber counts too.
>>161745949
Wrong.
>>161745929
This. Anyone would be outraged, but somehow it's autism because people don't like Crybaby's character art?

Looks vaguely like Highschool DxD. Promote it more.
>>161737252
You'll be okay. Dive into the manga, it's short.
>>161748100
I love this.
>>161744407
Guess the japanese were wrong because they liked Nagai as well.
>>161748837
Nagai represents a cultural shift for Japanese society with Harenchi Gakuen.
That shit was apparently huge in the late 60s, and was apparently the most famous Shounen Jump manga of its time.
