Light yagami is a very popular student.
He is very smart and good at tennis.
Why it can't work on the United States of america.
Because for Light to be popular, he would have to be a good footbal player instead.
But then he would also have to be very smart. This would create a very unrealistic character.
The hollywood adaptation should happen in Europe instead.
Where a student can be popular by playing tennis.

You can adapt all kinds of things if you adapt it to the local culture properly

He can go to a preppy private school that values tennis instead of AMERICAN FOOTBALL.

They should've just made it so it's sequel/spin off in which Light's story happened in the past and Ryuk chooses an american guy with a different background as the next owner of the dn.
That's some pretty bad reasoning. He's popular because he's charismatic, good looking and seems like a cool guy in general. Not just because he's smart and good at tennis.
He's a genius, not being a normalfag is part of his character.

For it to be Americanised does it really have to be set in America? Like surely something can be made to appeal to Americans while not being set in America, unless Americans only watch stuff set in their own country
>Light's a northeastern WASP attending an elite private school
>GOAT at tennis or soccer or another more gentrified sport
>picks his names from the elite pedophile satanic jews that he's forced to rub shoulders with
There, American Death Note

One of my best buds in High School was on varsity tennis and was also an honor student. Due was also super jacked and pretty popular. Ended up getting a full ride scholarship to a private school and now teaches Chemistry. It's not unrealistic.
