That was actually confirmed in the afterword of volume 26. It was something like "As a result of all the surveys that were sent in, after a consultation with S-kun who is in charge of editing, it's been decided that the series will be able to continue even after it has used enough volumes to complete the main series." If you don't want to buy the ebooks Seven Seas has a survey every month where you can request titles you want to see licensed. I know some of the comparisons are weak, like Clan/ Washu and Yurika/ Mihoshi, but still it reminded me of Tenchi while reading it. The series also does a good job of making them feel like a family, and not just a guy and the girls lusting after him.

Makes me wonder how Tenchi would have turned out if it was originally a LN instead of an OVA that was constantly shit on by it's studio/distributor.

Kou is one of the best MCs I've seen in a long ass time. I cannot even Self insert in his situation because I know my personality wouldn't work with the others.

I also like that the two other prominent guys in the series are also good characters (McKenzie and Alexis). I can't think of many series with a cast so large yet so developed at the same time.

It's a relatively light series that focuses a lot more on character development and their interactions more than it does on action, but the action that there is is at least done competently, even if it's nothing particularly special in the first books. I remember watching the anime a good years back and liking it a lot. Is it fine if I just listened to the Drama CD for the Blue Knight arc and then picked up the LNs from there?

From what I hear despite the show cramming five and a half volumes in it, the anime was still a good adaptation with a very satisfying conclusion.
