Because its even worse than the average KyoAni show, which in itself says a lot since KyoAni is known for badly written shows. I true patrician realizes that Tamakos only savlageable characters are Kanna and Tamako, and that Phantom World is KyoAnis only real masterpiece.

Originally it seemed that people were expecting a different kind of show. Beyond that I see a lot of anons not really liking the atmosphere. Also a lot of hate for the bird for some reason.

I think it's one of the best things they've ever done, and the movie really seals it.

The bird is emblematic of the show's problems. The islanders and the bird never established a compelling reason for them to be there, which is why they were cast aside for the film.

I watched it literally last week.
The bird going from obnoxious comic relief to extremely pretentious, corny monologues at the end of every episode was weird.
I wanted a bit more closure from the movie as well.
Other than that, it was a cute SOL, with some well animated cute character designs, but nothing spectacular.
I'd totally watch a spin-off about the autist carpenter girl though.

The movie was pretty fuckin good desu too

Tamako and Midori are fantastic characters.

I love Kanna.

It looks nicer and I would praise the designs, but the show itself is innocuous to a fault. The movie is a bit better storytelling wise, but it's still brought down by some ties to the show.

No plot and the individual episodes (with some exceptions) weren't strong enough to make it work as a SoL. We got a good movie out of it though.
