no I don't think there is something like EU laws (or maybe I'm just highly ignorant of how the EU actually works) but anyway I live in the south of EU and we have nationally laws enforcing the obligation to send your children to school. the laws say that you as an underage person are forced to attend school until you are 16yo but recently one of our minister suggested that the limit should be 18yo

Not him, but here in Germany it is compulsory to drag your children to school. If the parents don't do that, they get fined, thrown into prison for some months or even get their child taken away from them (which rarely ever happened). It's not for the entirety of the EU that way though, as far as I can tell, some countries like Austria or Spain are alright with the children getting taught at home it seems.
