Lads, how do we fix /a/? Evidently the guidelines in the new sticky are not the answer.
>>
Here's my suggestions:

>1. Have the range of threads be the same as on every other board.
/a/ is the only board where every single thread has to be about a specific anime/manga or character that you can name. Threads about the anime/manga industry, anime or manga in general, genres, tropes, how we watch anime or read manga, board culture, tangentially related irl topics (encounters with /a/nons irl), original content creation threads, anime/manga laws and so forth. A similar range of topics is allowed on other topical boards I've lurked, such as /k/, /ck/, /out/, /v/ and /g/, to name a few. Why is /a/ the only board where no fun is allowed? IMO, it has really killed the board in the last several years.

>2. Ban the moralizing complainers.
People can derail an entire thread if someone posts a sadfrog meme - or for any reason. It doesn't matter that sadfrog started on /a/. Because the news says that it's a white supremacist meme now, people associate it with /pol/ only, and will totally shit up a thread, whereas the person posting the sadfrog would have otherwise posted that and fucked off normally. It's the people complaining about a thread topic that are seriously shitting up this board these days. All these people shit up threads without contributing a single thing. They are just upset and trying to shit up the thread in their anger. That shouldn't be allowed.

The problem is made worse when these people become janitors and about a minute after they start threatening the "off-topic" poster with a ban, the "offending" post gets deleted. That can't happen unless the jani is already posting in the thread - and that shouldn't be allowed either.

/qa/ is one guy complaining about /pol/, /bant/ posting pepe to piss people off and /ota/ flunkies who can only communicate in canned, belittling phrases, it's really rare that actual meta discussion happens and some anons actively spam it to deletion there.
>>
>>161358753
Not gonna happen, because /co/mbr would want a spit too.
>>
Make a cookie that is required to post on /a/ (e.g. if you don't have this cookie/cookie is too new, you cannot post on /a/) that tracks board posts. If a poster has posted on a board outside of /diy/ or /a/ in the last, say, hour, make the system automatically and silently ban them. This will allow one to lurk other boards, but not post on them if they wish to post on /a/, and thus improve quality of /a/ since many will not be able to adhere. This will ban the likes of OP, since he's likely posting on other boards right now, and if he clears the cookie, he would be marked as "new" and unable to post on /a/ for a while.

The sticky seems fine.
It all depends on how active and how smart the mods works, ultimately.

The duty of the community is to report posts that they believe to be breaking the rules. Don't be too impatient if a thread with content that isn't fit for /a/ still hasn't been deleted after 20 minutes.
And the community really needs to be more relaxed, but also mature enough to not reply to obvious bait.

Don't take everything too serious, but don't be too lax either. Don't be afraid to report something you believe just doesn't belong here.

>>
ごきげんよう /a/, the moderation team has come up with a few guidelines to improve your experience on /a/ and encourage people to lurk moar, etc. Mods will be more proactive in moving or removing threads when deemed necessary. This will only be stickied temporarily.

- Please avoid making threads in “general” or “template” formats. Avoid chaining threads, copy-pasting OPs, backlinks, and the like.
- Avoid redirecting all discussion of a series to a single thread. Users are free to discuss similar content in separate threads as long as threads are not being spammed.
- As commonly recurring threads tend to suffer from degradation of quality over time, posts inside such threads may be held to higher standards in terms of rules 6 (Quality of Posts) and 10 (Spamming/Excessive Reposting).
- Threads in /a/ should be primarily based on anime/manga discussion. Consider using either >>>/e/, >>>/y/, >>>/c/, >>>/h/ or >>>/cm/ for image sharing threads, and >>>/bant/ or >>>/trash/ for generals which have long since exhausted all fresh discussion.
- Discussion should be centered on series and characters, not the posters or communities that discuss said series and characters.
- Aim for original discussion or content, both when creating OPs and posting inside threads, and allow threads to die naturally.
- Request threads belong on >>>/r/ or >>>/wsr/, and “spoonfeeding” is not encouraged as that degrades the point/validity of using those other boards. Lurk and learn, rather than demand chores from the board.
- Threads which are /a/ related but have no clear alternative forms (such as buyfag/drawfag) are allowed as long as they follow these guidelines.

Thanks!

In regards to /a/ shunning "generalfags" over any sort of negative assumptions with generals, I have to say this is completely false.

/a/ culture as a whole respects threads with community and structure, and as such any general will look far more favorable than that of of a weak, unorganized thread struggling with even the basics of community and post frequency. Especially when given the choice between a catalog of generals, or a catalog full of threads that nobody recognizes and cares about.

Once word gets out that the majority of /a/ actually favors generals, /a/ as a whole will undoubtedly prefer generals to the alternative. In fact, the "generalfag" is respected and renowned throughout imageboard culture so much that various generals and topics are viewed favorably and respected despite being generals. For example, unlike the average thread that dies at 100 posts, /dbg/ is actually treated with respect and viewed as an honorary sticky by the mods and janitors. It's commonly referred to as "くそったれ", which directly translates to "One With Us", "Us" referring to /a/ and its culture.

Those are the facts. Too bad, I suppose, but anti-general posters had a good run.
>>
>>161359606

For starters, a community that doesn't use the report function.
The other problem is that the community that still inhabits the general threads that became problematic doesn't want to get rid of the e-drama, because then the thread would have no meaning anymore.

So, to make mods aware that a thread is shit and needs to be cleaned up, people need to report it. But the shitty threads are only visited by the problematic users in the first place, which means that nobody's reporting anything.
