What exactly is, if a precise answer exists, the aesthetic or visual design used in the Monogatari series? The show seems to give a lot of attention to industrial design, typography, and Pop-art. The only description I can really think of is a Japanese flavored Bauhaus. What does /a/ think?
Also, feel free to discuss other visual designs/aesthetics utilized in anime that have caught your eye.

I'm familiar with his work and actually quite admire it, but he must have his influences, and those are what I am wishing to know about.

I seem to recall several flourishes sprinkled throughout, but that doesn't seem to be his primary aesthetic in this series. Though, the more I try to recall of the show, the more I begin to realize the man has quite the amalgamation of visual tastes.

I think art deco is an influence, the clean lines and gradients.

>Shinbo: It’s a fancy positioning of an object on the screen. Even though that was surprisingly normal to me, like Sasaki-san smacks a forefront object, or like showing a character retreating inwards by dabbing an object, and so he was making interesting layouts (TL Note: “Smacking/dabbing” is placing an object in front of the subject for composition.) That was really cool. That was big influence on me as it was evolving into my way of making on-screen composition .

That's retarded. Literally every director ever uses similar shots between works, it's impossible not to. It's just noticeable with Shinbo bc his shots are different from the average.

>You see, my taste in color is from manga. Like, old school Shonen manga color pages. Even in four-color prints, there are cases where red screentone shows up on yellow background, right? That was what I wanted to do.
Thanks for the link. This has been enlightening.
