I thought the battles in the first half were way better than the second. Maybe I just grew accustomed to it, but the action in the second half felt pretty generic.
The best fight in the whole anime is the first battle between Viral and Kamina/Simon, of course.

I've never taken them out.

I liked the adventurey feel of the first half. The second half was alright, but I'm personally not much for crazy integalactic battles. I prefer when the action is more down to earth.

I have watched OVER 20 ANIME (yes, you heard that right, more than 20 anime series) and I still haven't watched anything better than Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Wow, I'm glad to see someone else on this board share my anime expertise.

One of the best shows of its decade, easily.

Inspirational, well animated, you could really feel the love for every character and scene. Was massively inspired by retro concepts but with all the good modern stuff. Basically Gainax's last great work until they drifted apart.

There have been other great shows since but very few have topped it in terms of pure personal effort going into it. You have stuff like Kill la Kill but it was a bit generic and low budget at times, and Space Dandy was great but its episodic format made it hard to get really attached.

2007 was also basically the last year of anime's golden age where you could devote 26 episodes to some zany sci-fi concept and actually have good animation, so it will be remembered for that.
