Outlaw Star was the inspiration for one of the greatest Sci-fi shows that ever existed.

muh nostalgia meme
>>161254783
So? It's still uninspired.
>>161254943
Outlaw Star literally invented the space western genre. They were the first ones to ever do it.
>uninspired
>>161249923
>Uninspired fantasy/scifi tropes
They were still fresh when it came out.

It was okay. Though I got the vibe from this place it was really good, maybe that's why you don't see threads that often. Because it 's just kind of late night Western Anime TV nostalgia.
I just felt kinda average overall. Really fell apart near the end. Like the rushing of the Boss Seven Star guys. The Magic Bullet planet stuff felt like they wanted to go farther with it, prophesying him as some sort of Messiah.
Though the end was pretty neat.
It was nice to see some older style animation though. Not sure if it's on celluloid or whatever, but maybe it just being on film or something. Has the gritty feel which goes nice with the sci fi.
>>161255821
Yeah it's animated on cells. Outlaw Star was one of the last shows Sunrise animated on cells (and with 35mm film) which is why the BDs look so gorgeous.
>>161255821
>hough I got the vibe from this place it was really good
That's because people tend to overrate things that they watched as a youth (e.g. Trigun). It's certainly not a bad show but it isn't some masterpiece that people will have you believe. We have people in this thread saying that it "invented" space westerns and had "long character arcs". That's beyond delusional. It was based on a short manga and it shows with how thin the plot and characters are. Which again, is not a bad thing, but people can't accept any fucking criticism of this show.
>>161255887
Yeah the 'cell' quality made it worth watching(watched it few months ago). Else I think I may have dropped it.
Even the scenes with mediocre animation still looked alright, since it felt like more effort went into them then say digital rushing/budget.
>>161255970
Well it is pretty old. Though I was expecting a little more cohesion and scale.
Was Trigun just as mediocre?
Stuff like Big Oh held up well as an adult.
>>161256616
Trigun is still good, if you compare it to the quality of the average anime, it's well above average in terms of creativity, characterization, plot, and overall aesthetic design. I would say the same about Outlaw Star.
>>161255821
>>161256616
Well geez, all these screen shots just make me want to watch it for the first time in years.
>>161247541
It's not our fault you aren't smart enough to appreciate it
Shit nigga you don't diss the classics
second ending is the best one "Tsuki no Ie"
>>161255456
Not OP but didnt Galaxy Express come first? Same universe, but yeah. Even so Space Trains, was a pretty cool idea at the time, even if it was a subpar startrek show at some points if my memory serves correct. Been years since Ive seen anything but the first few episodes though.
>>161255970
Not to mention if I recall the mange ended shortly after the show did. Nit if it was because it flopped or the author fell short. But from what Ive seen the anime did a better job all the way to the end. And left it open for a second season that never happened.
>>161258332
princess principal doesn't have clever writing.
>>161247541
Outlaw Star was fuckin great! When I was a kid, at least. I definitely wouldn't even be able to get through it all if I had just discovered it yesterday, now that I'm older.
>>161247541
I watched it 14 years ago and didn't like it

>>161255124
Star Trek was originally described by Gene Roddenberry as a "space western". The idea is pretty old.

Who gives a fuck what the wild thornberry thinks
Anyone got any actually personal complaints with it that aren't buzzwords or attempts to sound like you think more about shows that you do, like you're trying to sound like a critic and not a person?
